Network plug retry?

ok when i apply firmware updates to me router and it reboots then all the plugs in my house have ti re connect. some do some don't. Do the plugs continuously retry to connect ot the Wi-Fi or doe it retry for so many minutes and then stops? I have some plugs that sit 1 foot from the router that sometimes don't reconnect while others that ir on another floor connect fine.
