Controlling Your Lights with the S200D

Check out the Quick Start Action in the Tapo App to quickly configure all your smart buttons possible actions.

Using a Quick Start or Recommended Action allows you to automate a device easily and quickly based on predetermined conditions and actions.

Note: After Finalizing Your Quick Action, You See Three Separate Actions in Your Tapo App’s List of Automations and Shortcuts:

  • Single tap the button to turn on or off the light
  • Rotate the button clockwise to increase light brightness
  • Rotate the button anticlockwise to decrease light brightness

These controls are generally considered the “defaults” for most smart buttons and provide controls similar to those of a light switch.

Shortcuts: Change the Function of a Smart Button for Guests

1213671339814b97bc4c5d96180100d9While your smart button can control almost any facet of your smart home through automation, this can be overwhelming for guests who may not be used to smart homes. If you are using your Smart Button for more complex automation, we recommend creating a “Guest Mode” for others.

** Remember, Each Smart Button Requires 3 Separate Automations, One for Each Action Type **

Shortcut 1: Disable Normal Function and Enable Guest Mode

Smart > Create Shortcut > Enable / Disable an Automation

  • Disable the 3 Automations You Normally Use for Your Smart Button (Press, Double Press, Rotate)
  • Create an Additional Action to Enable the 3 Actions Intended for Guests to Use (Press, Double Press, Rotate)

Shortcut 2: Disable Guest Mode and Enable Normal Function

Smart > Create Shortcut > Enable / Disable an Automation

  • Disable the 3 Automations You Intend for Guests to Use (Press, Double Press, Rotate)
  • Create an Additional Action to Enable the 3 Actions Intended for Guests to Use (Press, Double Press, Rotate)

When configured this way, you will be able to quickly put your Smart Button in “Guest Mode” via the In-App Shortcuts, a Home Screen Widget, or even via a Voice Assistant.

Please Note: The S200D is a Sub-GHz Device and Requires a Sub-GHz Compatible Hub from Tapo. Currently, the H100 and H200 (Sold as a Bundle with Sub-GHz Cameras) are Available. Sub-GHz Devices, such as Sensors and Buttons, connect over a sub-1GHz frequency and will not connect with a traditional Wi-Fi connection.

*The S200D is not Currently Compatible with the Matter Bridging Feature of the HS100 and HS200.
