Hs200 failure, blinking lights, had been fine

Hello! We have about two dozen of the hs200(us) smart switches. Different hardware versions. Two on fw 1.0.11 and hardware version 5.6 VN1 have failed.
They had been working normally for over 8 months. One failed, I replaced it and didn't think much of it. Then the second one failed.
The green circle led and the wifi light both blink rapidly, if I press the reset button, the blinking leds stop, but then the lights on load flicker rapidly, once per second. The relay in the switch is heard rapidly turning on and off. The only way it stops is to shut off the breaker and remove the switch.
I haven't found a post similar, so I'm hoping this post will get some interest.

One of our many HS200s died last night with the strobe light flashing on/off of our garage coach lights. I had to flip the breaker to stop the issue since restart and reset buttons on the switch did nothing. Neighbors would have been very annoyned had I not been home to turn the lights off since we're in a gated over 55 community in south florida and only here half the year! Had we been up north at our other home it would have been a major issue since none of our 80 year old neighbors would be offering to run over and climb onto the stepsladder required to reach our high on the garage wall breaker box to flip the breaker.
I ordered a replacement HS200 that arrived overnight but after wiring it in was unable to connect with the app during the final step where you are required to select an icon for your device. Worked manually and connected to wifi just fine and named the switch but got stuck with a spinning wheel at that icon page 3x. Closed app each time and reopened to try again but no luck.
Tried live chat with TPLink which took forever and really went nowhere since tech was not a native english speaker and apparently following a script and for some reason continued to ask questions about failed switch when my issue was the new one not finishing the connection in the app. Had to send pic of SN visible on failed switch plus pic of Amazon receipt before tech agreed to address new switch connection issue - advice finally received was to use another phone or tablet with Kasa app installed to see if that worked.
After 45 minutes of chat I gave up and tried again with my original phone - this time install process completed so perhaps it was an issue with connecting to Tp Link server during setup process?
In any case after finding all the identical issues on this forum re the HS200 I immediately ordered both a Leviton and an Amazon Basics smart switch with Amazon same day delivery as at least a backup plan for future Kasa switches that go belly up. I do not want to have to learn to solder in new capacitors as the other forum user did successfully. I'm an old lady and willing to install switches/fixtures/ceiling fans etc and did recently use a heat shrink connector to splice lamp wire but I draw the line for now at learning to usa a soldering gun. Am hoping the Amazon Basics isn't a rebranded HS200...
