Model: Tapo D225
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.2

I have tried, without luck, to set up my Tapo D225 on Home Assistant.  I'm running the Home Assistant web UI via a new Truenas server.  Home Assistant appears to accept the IP address for the D225, but the authentication fails every time.  I have set up a "camera" user account and password on the Tapo app that I am using for the authentication.  I have also turned on "Third-Party Compatibility" in the Tapo app.  Lastly, I turned off 2FA in the Tapo app, but still no love.

Is there something I am still missing?  Or is the D225 not truly compatible with Home Assistant directly?  I really would like to stick with Tapo devices and also add one or two more security cameras, but I am starting to think I just need to change out to something like Reolink.

  @stash64

Home Assistant is indeed a third-party platform that Tapo does not support.

If you’re connecting via RTSP/ONVIF: You can check this setup guide to see if a step was missed: How to View Tapo Camera on PC, NAS, or NVR Using RTSP/ONVIF

However, if you are using a different connection method and still cannot establish a link even after enabling the “Third-Party Compatibility” switch in the Tapo app, I recommend seeking assistance on the Home Assistant forum.

  @stash64 I'm having the exact same issue. Please post if you figure it out and I'll try to remember to do the same.

  @stash64 This always happens. If I ever post a problem to a forum, even if I've been working on it for days, I find the answer just minutes after posting. This time was no different.

https://github.com/maxplante/homeassistant-tapo-control

It can be added through HACS directly in Home Assistant.

I just did it and it works perfectly (except that there is no distortion correction).

I did the same as well.  It would seem the HACS integration is the only way to get the Tapo devices to work on Home Assistant.  And it was a real challenge to get HACS installed because I am using the Web UI app only version of Home Assistant, running on TrueNAS, not the OS version.

I'm running HA in a Docker container on a Linux box, so I have a similar setup. I also got my Tapo RV30 connected via custom repo through HACS.
