Hi,

I hoope this isn't a silly question.....

I use the above adapter with a TL-PA8010P 2.0. tpPLC shows a Data Rate from this to the TL-WPA8631P of around 540Mbps. However, if I connect an Ethernet cable to any of the ports, the throughput is far slower - just about 100Mbps. I'm using shielded twisted pair Cat7 cable. I have both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz wifi turned off. To test, I've enabled 5Ghz and this has a better connection speed of approx 135Mbps and I would expect the cable to have a far better performance that wireless.

Can anyone explain to me the disparity between the Data Rate showing in tpPLC and the Ethernet speed? The TL-WPA8631P has a static IP and DHC is disabled.

Thanks!

Ades

@Ades - okay - I've found the FAQ... So actual speed is approx 30% - 35% of data rate so 30% of 540Mbps = 162Mbps. So that answers that!

Yes, that is correct. Data rate displayed on the tpPLC is the powerline rate between the two powerline units, instead of real internet speed.

The real internet speed of the powerline extender can be affected by the powerline rate and also your router internet speed.

By the way, you mentioned that the wired speed is around 100Mbps, if it never reaches 100Mbps, it is recommended to check the wired link speed between your computer and the powerline extender to see if the link speed is 100Mbps or 1Gbps:
