Model: ER706W-4G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

Hi,

I installed the release candidate firmware 1.2.0 Build 20250428 Rel.76691 on my system and noticed the mDNS to reflect bonjour traffic across multiple VLANs no longer worked. Thinking it was me I spend a couple of hours double checking all settings on mDNS and ACLs, but wasn't able to fix it.

A rollback to firmware 1.1.3 Build 20241021 fixed the issue for me, I can now airplay across vlans again.

Posting not as a complaint or request for support, as 1.2.0 is a release candidate. I want to inform tp link development team and to make sure others don't lose time trouble shooting if they run into the same problem.

Pieter

Diagram of your network with IP specified.

What ACL and mDNS config do you set?

Will it be possible to provide a backup in private? (Regular backup instead of support backup).

In addition, did you follow and exmaine by step with the mDNS not working guide? What are the results for each step?

  @Clive_A

Sure, there are 4 vlans each with their own IP range. The gateway ACLs are setup as follows:

- the network management vlan is isolated

- all networks can access the IOT VLAN, but the IOT vlan can only connect back to the other networks if a connection is already established

For good measure there is a switch ACL which allows traffic from all ip on UDP port 5353 to all networks

mDNS is setup from all networks to all networks for all protocols.

The airpay devices are connected to one of the 2 normal VLANs (so not in the IOT or network management VLAN)

I checked all steps in the mDNS not working guide.

With current settings there was no airplay possible between vlans on firmware 1.2.0. Without any other change a roll-back to 1.1.3 for the ER704W-4g made airplay playback across vlans work again.

Happy to provide a back up.

Pieter
