Brand New Tapo D235 Stuck in Firmware Update Loop (1.1.19)

Hello everyone,
I’ve just purchased and set up a brand new Tapo D235 doorbell, and I’m experiencing an issue right from the start.
🔄 Problem:
The device keeps prompting me to update to firmware version 1.1.19. I run the update, it says it’s successful, but when I go back to the home page it asks to update again. This loop continues no matter what I try.
✅ Troubleshooting so far:
- Performed the firmware update multiple times (shows as successful each time).
- Confirmed the firmware version after update is 1.1.19, but it still asks to update.
- Factory reset the doorbell and set it up from scratch.
- Tried updating while placing the doorbell right next to my router for a stable connection.
- Used both an iPhone and an Android phone to attempt the update, same issue on both.
💬 Additional context:
Considering I have just opened and installed this brand new device, this is very disappointing and not the experience I expected. I rely on it for security, and it’s frustrating to have issues straight out of the box.
❓ Questions:
- Has anyone else faced this issue and found a solution?
- Is this something that requires Tapo support to push a manual firmware validation or provide a direct firmware file?
- Should I consider requesting a replacement if this cannot be resolved quickly?
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

@Going4it I've fixed it by turning off both router and door bell .. somehow by generating a new ip address they sort of linked up to

@Alessandrols15 Network issues can sometimes prevent timely updates to firmware upgrade notifications. You might see a persistent message indicating that a new firmware version is available, even if your device has already been updated. This information can generally be ignored, as it will usually vanish on its own after a while.

I have the exact same issue as you brand-new out the box keeps prompting for firmware update. Have SD card in, have reformatted the card have reset device to factory settings and repaired, rebooted router, stood next to router and still won't update device, flashes orange and red, goes white then resets after that it says update failed.
Frustrated with a new product out of box.

I've checked the tech documents and I've tried a few solutions but still not manage to get it to update the firmware. It's currently on build 1.1.10.
I have a Deco M9 and I can see both a D235 AND D100C device on my network, curious as to why there is a D100C there, signal strength of D235 is -53(RSSI) a good strength.
When I initiate the download I see data downloading and uploading on the D235 on the Deco, at this point the light is white on the Doorbell, then data stops downloading, the doorbell goes solid red for 1 sec, then flashes red for about 2-3 secs, seems to reboot itself then the app returns a update failed error.
I have rebooted router and stood next to it update
I have tried via the 4G network on my phone
Factory reset
On my Deco router on the D235 device turned Mesh Technology off (I had this fix probs with androids)
fixed wi-fi band to 2.4ghz only
I also tried swearing at it which also didn't work.
any other ideas?
I'm from a tech background so feel free to get technical.

@Wayne-TP I have the same issue, at version 1.1.10. I can't update it to 1.1.19.
I have tried removing the camera, factory resetting and connecting again, no success.
I also tried removing it, factory resetting and connecting to both a 2.4 and 5 ghz. 1 attempt on each, no success.
I can't find a solution and it's pretty frustrating.

Mines still not updating either, must have spent at least 5hrs resetting, troubleshooting, trying to connect to different networks but still stuck with the original version and annoying messages.

@Going4it Sorry, your message got missed somehow. Did you try to connect the doorbell to a hotspot WiFi, and perform the update with another phone?
@SwimmingUpstair You can also try this, linking the doorbell to another WiFi network, such as a 2.4GHz guest WiFi or hotspot from a phone.
