Trying to add APs to existing EAP 610 v1 for fast roaming
Hello,
I once ran a (very) small business from my home using an EAP 610 v1. I no longer run the business, but I want to add one or more APs to extend WiFi range and implement fast (seamless?) roaming in my home. I have read many posts, articles, etc., but I remain confused about what is needed to accomplish this. The firmware on 610 was recently updated to the latest version available: v1.4.3 Build 20250520 Rel. 45372(5553).
My 610 is mounted on a wall (not a ceiling, though I have seen no real difference in range with wall vs ceiling mounting). I would like to add another indoor AP (perhaps EAD 615 WALL) and an outdoor AP (perhaps EAP225-Outdoor). All 3 APs would be hard-wired (the outdoor AP powered via PoE from a TL-SG1005P switch).
I THINK these APs can be configured in standalone mode to achieve fast (or seamless) roaming. Is that right?
Is an Omada controller required? If so, does the controller have to be hardware or software? If software will suffice, where is the software hosted?
Do I need the Omada app to configure these APs?
I read one article on the TP-Link web site titled "How to Configure your Omada EAP into a Mesh Network Using the Omada App" (https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/3596/). The article says "Required Omada app version 4.6.9 and above", but when I look on Google Play, the current version of the TP-Link Omada app is v4.25.2, last updated on Aug 1, 2025 ... ??
As I understand it, Mesh simply allows the connection of APs over WiFi, right? If so, then since I am hard-wiring all the APs, I do not need Mesh.
I know these are pretty basic (dumb?) questions, but info I'm reading seems contradictory and (unnecessarily?) complicated. I would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer.
Thanks
