Hola,

I am experiencing an issue with the VPN functionality on my TP-Link ER6020 router. I have attempted to establish both PPTP and L2TP VPN connections and, while the connections are successfully established, I am unable to access the internet through the VPN on both my Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows machines.

Here are the details of my setup:

  • Router Model: TP-Link ER6020
  • Connection to ISP: PPPoE mode
  • Modem: Virgin Valerie Modem (Router placed in DMZ)
  • Local Network Details:
    • Network: 10.1.1.0/24
    • Gateway: 10.1.1.1
    • DNS: 8.8.8.8
    • DHCP Range: 10.1.1.100 - 10.1.1.199
  • VPN Configuration:
    • Local VPN IP Pool: 10.1.1.30 - 10.1.1.39
    • Remote VPN IP Pool: 10.1.1.40 - 10.1.1.49
  • DDNS: Configured with No-IP
  • Firewall: No custom rules that would block VPN traffic
  • NAT: Default configuration, no special rules set up for VPN
  • Client Devices: Tested on both Ubuntu Linux and Windows, with consistent results

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  1. Checked firewall settings on both the router and client devices (Firewall is inactive on Ubuntu).
  2. Verified that the VPN client receives an IP address from the specified pool.
  3. Attempted to ping external IP addresses (e.g., 8.8.8.8) and domain names while connected to the VPN with 100% packet loss.

  @Vakama

Remote VPN IP Pool: 10.1.1.40 - 10.1.1.49

That would indicate that the remote LAN is using the same subnet as your local LAN. You will never be able to use a VPN is those circumstances. The local and remote LANs MUST be different subnets, you need to change one of them.

1. Local IP Address should be a single IP address in the User config.
