Model: OC200
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.26.3 Build 20230906 Rel.36269

Hello

I want to move away from self-hosting the Controller and so I purchased a OC200.

Like many others (based on the numerous threads here and on Reddit), I am blocked on migrating my settings from self-hosted to the OC200 because of the latest version mismatch:

Latest controller version of OC200: 5.12.9

Latest controller version of self-hosted: 5.13.23

I have made multiple configuration changes recently, so simply restoring to an old backup file from when my software was at <5.12.9 is not an option.

My question, presuming there is no other way of migrating and I don't want to do it manually, is when will the OC200 5.13.23 or above controller version firmware be available? Are we talking weeks or months?

In the meantime, I will refrain from updating the self-hosted controller version, so that the OC200 has a chance to catchup, at which point I will hopefully be allowed to do a successful migration.

Thanks, Will.

Also, it doesn't seem like the beta software is an option since it has bricked folks OC200 here and here in the last day alone (after a 2 min google search)

Hi, it's easier than you think.  Just set up your OC200 as a new controller, and then follow the 'Site Migration' wizard.  You cannot do a full controller restore, but you can migrate each site to the new controller.

Unfortunately migrating a site doesn't work either, for nearly the same reason:

> For controller v 4.3.0 and above, only the file from the controller with the same major and minor version number can be imported.

And if you try regardless, you get:

> Failed to restore because the file is incompatible.

You must be doing something wrong because it has worked for me many times.  Anyways, 5.13 is out for the OC200.  See this article

"Anyways, 5.13 is out for the OC200.  See this article" - This is the pre-release / beta version if I'm not mistaken.

You seem determined to not succeed.

So, let's go back to plan A, did you create the SITE backup file from your existing controller per the wizard and did you then use the Site Import from the new controller' Dashboard to import that SITE backup file?  Because that's how I move between HW and SW controllers all the time, I don't have any OC200's left on 5.12 or I'd test it myself.

Yes I did exactly that and I ended up with the error I shared in the previous post.

In fact it clearly states on the import screen that "only the file from the controller with the same major and minor version number can be imported"

Since the controllers are on different major and minor versions I don't see how you would expect a site migration to work when the versions are as follows:

Controller version of OC200: 5.12.9

Controller version of self-hosted: 5.13.23

Sorry, just re-read entire thread again.  You are correct, you cannot restore downwards due to db schema changes.  Usually, the 'official' version comes out 4-8 weeks after the last beta, but we've had a few 5.13 iterations already, so I'm not sure 5.30 is the last.  I really wish TPlink would open up the backup format so we'd have half a chance at extracting the key config settings.

If it's any comfort on using the beta, read the release notes for the beta and see how many bugfixes there are since the "official" 5.12 version you are currently using.
