Troubleshooting A Port Being Blocked Showing in Controller Log - "xyz's port Gi 1/0/X Was Blocked"
This Article Applies to:
All Omada switches that are in Controller mode.
All Omada switches that are capable of STP/RSTP feature.
Issue Description:
In certain cases, you might see this error in your controller log. And the network remains okay.
Troubleshooting:
1. Check your physical connection.
This is an issue caused by the loop. It would recommend you use the tool to check the cable and find out where it ends.
Or you can remove the cable from the port temporarily. If this log stops during the days you monitor, you are still suggested to find out where it ends manually.
2. Check if you have EAP in mesh.
In certain scenarios, you may have EAP in EAP mesh. Disabling the EAP mesh would resolve the issue. For further diagnosis, please start a new thread in the EAP section.
Note:
1. What is STP/RSTP?
STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) and RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) are two network protocols designed to prevent loop issues in Local Area Networks (LANs). STP, the earlier standard defined by IEEE 802.1D, prevents loops by building a loop-free network topology. RSTP, an enhancement over STP, is defined by IEEE 802.1w and offers faster network recovery times.
These protocols are primarily used in Ethernet networks to ensure that data packets do not loop indefinitely within the network, thus avoiding network congestion and failures.

2. STP/RSTP is enabled by default in Controller mode. This log is triggered by the loop and stopped by the STP/RSTP.
3. If you insist this is not a cable or connection issue, and there is no loop in your network, you may turn off the STP/RSTP on your switch during the maintenance time and check if your network would shut down gradually. If yes, that proves the network is in a loop. It shuts down because of the network storm. Please follow the instructions above.
(Disclaimer: We are not held responsible for your downtime or loss in production and you should save your work before testing or prepare a test environment, as this is a test method to prove that the cause results from the loop. Proceed at your own discretion.)
