Hi there,

we have the following scenario and I don't get it done to get internet connection in my VLAN network. I already saw some threads for this topic, but I don't know if there was a scenario like mine and I don't get the error.

Router is a FritzBox (172.16.1.1) -- (no hate please ;-) but we need it currently for DECT-Phones)

Fritzbox is connected to a TL-SG1428PE

TL-SG1425PE (172.16.1.15) is connected (with SFP/Fibre) to T2600G-28TS (172.16.1.10/192.168.20.1)

Computer is connected with T2600G-28TS

I setup tagged VLAN 20 on both switches on the uplink ports additionally to VLAN1. Port of Computer is untagged with VLAN20 and PVID of the Computer-Port is also VLAN20. VLAN20 has Interface 192.168.20.1

I added a static route according to FAQ and some other How-Tos in T2600G (it is also our DHCP-Server):

Destination 172.16.0.0/255.255.0.0

Next Hop: 192.168.20.1

When I enter manually an IP Adress 192.168.20.2 I can ping 192.168.20.1, the T2600G and also the web interface of the switch is reachable.

But I cannot ping 172.16.1.1 - I don't get a connection, target network not reachable. And therefore I have no internet connection in VLAN 20.

Reason why we want to setup a VLAN is for creating Guest WiFis, we have some Unifi-APs for this.

Where is my error? Is a router instead of the FritzBox necessary which is able to handle VLAN?

Thankx & BR

Roland

  @Roland083

The Fritz box ALSO needs to know about 192.168.20.0/24 subnet as well.  Not familiar with Herr Fritz, but if he supports VLANs, then you just need to create the 192.68.20.0/24 subnet on Fritz and map it to VLAN 20.  You can then trunk VLAN20 from switch to switch where it is then untagged and made available to your guest subnet users.

If Herr Fritz does NOT support VLAN, then at least create a static route for 192.68.20.0/24 via 172.16.1.10

@d0ugmac1 Herr Fritz does not know anything about VLAN. :-) But I was able to solve the topic. As you said I had to create a route from Fritz Box to 192.168.20.0/24 network and from this network to FritzBox. Now (and after understandig the correct settings of VLAN) it is solved and my PC has access to Internet as well the Unifi APs get different IP-Ranges for different VLANs. :-)

Hi @Roland083

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

So based on what's written, it is a VLAN interface config.

Refer to this for some basic knowledge first, How to Set Up VLAN Interface on the Omada Router With Omada Switch

Since you are not using the Omada router, you should focus on the note part that has written some heads-up about the non-Omada router setup.

It is now beyond a matter of the switch or any routing on the switch. If your router does not support it, then this fails from the NAT-level.

About why it would not get you ping-ed, see the basis of VLAN: Common Questions About 802.1Q VLAN
