How did you configure the VR2800? Could you please elaborate the procedures? Is there any error message?
What is the current light status of the Archer VR2800?
Is there any special settings need to be done on the router to make it work?

Looks like a faulty VR2800
The DSL light never comes on...even after the DSL line is plugged in for ages.
I'm sending the router back.

Actually, the DSL led off does not mean that the device is faulty, instead, it is caused by many factors, like the DSL scychronization failed. We can do some troubleshooting on it.
For example, you can remove the splitter, change another DSL line or hard reset the router by holding the reset hole for 10s.
While if you have returned it back, you can check whether the next router works fine.
