Older macbook pros not connecting to Range extender

Hello,
We run a small office with a few desktop Macs and a few macbook pros.
All newer macbook pros and any cellphones, tablet are connecting to the range extender with no problem but older macbook pros 2011 (both with updated OS) will connect straight to the router with poor signal or not at all and not connecting at all through the extender...
We have made checks with various devices and checking through the tether app to see the connected devices...
