MR3020 4G Stick Problem (Huawei E3372)

Hello,

a few months ago I purchased a TPLink MR3020 and used it with a 3G Stick (Huawei E3531) which worked quite good. Every now and then the connection was lost and I had to replug the USB Stick into the router but other than that it worked how it should.

Now I purchased a 4G Stick (Huawei 3372) and it doesn't work at all. When I plug it into the PC it works flawlessly but not so when I plug it into the MR3020. I even upgraded the Firmware (TL-MR3020 V3.20(EU) - Build 180907) but that unfortunately did not help. Does anyone know a solution?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

May I know which country are you located? Who is your SIM card internet service provider?

Please refer to the compatibility list of the TL-MR3020.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/3g-comp-list.html?model=TL-MR3020&hdVer=V3.20

After you choose your own region, you can see a list of compatible USB modem's model, brand and ISP. If your USB modem is not in the list, it may can't working properly with the TL-MR3020.

You can try to contact your SIM card service provider, get the Dial Number, APN, username, password, Connection Mode and Authentication Type, then log into the management page of the TL-MR3020, go to the Advanced->Network->Internet->select Set Dial Number, APN, Username and Password manually, then try to create a profile for the USB modem on the router.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I tried your solution but unfortunately it did not work either. I browsed the compatibility list for Germany and I did not find my USB Stick. However, I also can not find the USB Stick that works for me (Huawei e3531). I also read some reviews on Amazon.com where people claim how the Huawei e3372 works perfectly for them. I got a Vodafone branded stick but it has no simlock.

Re:MR3020 4G Stick Problem (Huawei E3372) - WORKING
2021-11-11 23:10:35

@DanielTheFreak

I just purchased this unit and a E3372H-320, but could not get it to work, after reading lots of usesless sugestions of help, I noticed the firmware supplied was really old 2018?

I download this version:-

TL-MR3020(EU)_V3.20_210428

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/tl-mr3020/#Firmware

Plugged the stick in and switched to 3G/4G mode and it just works.

The stick I am using is the one supplied with BT 4G Assure and is setup to connect to EE in the UK.

When plugged into a PC, it sets up a Network connection at 192.168.8.1

I found I could access the stick at 192.168.8.1 and the TL-MR3020 at 192.168.1.1

The setup is double NATing, So PC has a DHCP from 192.168.1.1, the MR3020 has a WAN address from the E3372 of 192.168.8.1 (Which is really a local address)

Then the E3372 has CGNAT from the Mobile network. (So in relality triple NATing.) If you don't understand this, I am sure someone else can explain it better.

There might be better ways to set this up and use the E3372 as a Modem and use PPPoE from the MR3020 and drop the NATing the in E3372. But happy its just working for the moment. If it works, don't fix it.

Stick details below.

I hope this help others.

Enjoy..

Br.

Ian
