Speeds not as expected on 5ghz and 2.4ghz
Hi All,
I'm guessing this question has been asked before but can't seem to find any real answer to the problem (or anything I have not tried yet). I've recently bought the Deco M9 Triple pack and have finally got a stable Wifi connection throughout the entire house BUT as an IT specialist things did seem off during speedtests and I just can't put my finger on it.
My optic fibre internet connection is 1000mbs/1000mbs which in practice comes done to around 920/940 (yes really) and a ping of around 1ms. My speeds on wifi on the other hand are maxed out around 200mbs/160mbs on any device (macbook pro 2013, iPhone x, LG television) on 5ghz and 40/10 on 2,4ghz which dissapoints me quite allot. Houses in my neighbourhood are well isolated and mainly made of concrete (reason I need more then just my providers FritzBox) and thus I only have interference from my direct neighbours (that own a google mesh wifi) they do seem to be on the same channel as my 5ghz band but since I can't change that it can't be helped.
Reception to the devices are great and mentioned speeds are at point blank from the M9 (though it's hard to tell to which I'm connected but let's assume it's the one closest to my position).
My setup is as follows:
- Fritz!Box
- (LAN) Deco M9 (primary)
- TP-link 1000mbit 5 port switch LAN
- (LAN) Deco M9 (2)
- (WIFI backhaul) Deco M9 (3)
- TP-link 1000mbit 5 port switch LAN
- (LAN) Deco M9 (primary)
Now I have no idea of the second M9 connects through the lan line or is still using backhaul and as mentioned I have no idea to which my current devices is connected during testing but removing the secondary devices gives me no better speed so I can assume it's already going wrong at the primary M9.
Speedtests on the Primary M9 give me around 690/840 BUT i'm used to these numbers on a single server basis and am not sure which servers they use for the tests so they might be capped out at their end. When I connect to the primary M9 directly with a lan cable I get 900/900-ish so that seems to be in order.
There are about 5 devices connected throughout the entire network (other devices connect to the fritzbox wifi at 2,4ghz but all mentioned speeds above are with wifi totally disabled on the fritzbox). The devices are: LG TV, Google home (2x), Macbook, Iphone X.
Knowing is half the battle but since the app doesn't give any advanced information I feel a bit lost. Oh everything is up to date.
Hope anyone can help me out with this, some tips would be great. Tonight I'll try everything again and will also show some stuff from 'Wifi explorer' (mac App) and speedtests by ookla
