Low connection with TL-PA7010P (CPL AV1000)

Hi everyone, i just move and have fiber but my box isn't in the same room as my PC.
So I have buy kit of TL-PA7010P (CPL AV1000) and it work but my connection is 6x or 7x lower. I have test with my laptop.

When i connect my laptop at modem :

When i connect my laptop at TL-PA7010P :

On the application of TP-link :

https://www.noelshack.com/2019-23-2-1559672807-capture.png

(The cable used for the first test (modem => laptop) is the same for the 2nd test (modem => first CPL) so I send 700Mbps in the first CPL and I get 100Mbps in the second..)

I don't want the same connection at CPL as my modem but i'm little suprised to have this difference with this device.
I DL at 10/13mo/s on my PC with CPL.
I DL at 55/60Mo/s with my PC at modem with long cable.

It's a configuration to do ? Or my electrical instaltion is bad ? Or something else?

Thank's and sorry for my english.

AV1000 means the max link rate between the two powerline adapters is 1000Mbps.

For your case, the link rate between two devices is 415Mbps, it is not very satisfied. Please refer to the instructions in the link below to do some trouble shootings. It would be better if you could get a higher link rate.

Hi everyone,

I have the xact same problem with the same powerline model.

I did the same tests, and I don't have any of the interferences (motors, apliances etc) listed in the troubleshoot page.

I also updated the BIOS (don't know if it's related), and the ethernet drivers (Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I218-V)

In these screenshots you can see that the speed between the adapters is good enough, but the actual download speed from the internet is much lower.

I would really like to take advantage of my internet connection provider, otherwise I feel like I'm paying for a service that I cannot utilize.

Thanks in advance.

@ilMelle

Hello, thanks for your requesting.

First, I want to say that the powerline link rate on the tpPLC utility is not the actual speed you can get, instead, the actual speed is affected by the bandwidth you paid, the distance, obstacles and this powerline link rate. Generally speaking, the actual speed can be 30%-40% of the powerline link rate, combined with interference, it may be much lower.

Back to your case, we can do some troubleshooting first and verify whether we can find a solution.

1. What is the bandwidth you paid?

2. What is the led status of the TL-PA7010PKIT? Especially the powerline led.

3. Have you ever tried to change another sockets to plug the adapters?

4. Try to locate them in the same room and test the speed you can get.

5. Please ensure that the firmware of the powerline adapter is up to date.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z

1. What is the bandwidth you paid?

I pay for a 1Gbps connection

2. What is the led status of the TL-PA7010PKIT? Especially the powerline led.

All the 3 LEDs are on and steady green

3. Have you ever tried to change another sockets to plug the adapters?

No, I simply do not have other sockets to plug it into near my router. Also, I need these specific two sockets to work sine I'm using a desktop PC that I cannot move, and I don't have another available socket near the router.

4. Try to locate them in the same room and test the speed you can get.

I have no way to do that at the moment, since I don't have a laptop with an ethernet port, and I never possesed an ethernet dongle.

I can try borrowing one, but it's not an easy try for me right now.

5. Please ensure that the firmware of the powerline adapter is up to date.

I installed the latest available firmware for my device which is this: TL-PA7010P KIT (EU / UK / DE / FR / AU) _V3_171106 (as you can see in the screensshot attached)

The speed results are still the same (around 100Mbps for both upload and download)

For comparison i screenshotted the speed test using wifi near the router.

To exclude another possible bottleneck, I use Cat 5e ethernet cables for both powerline adapters, that should support up to 1Gbps speed, and both are 1.5 meters long.

Thanks for the quick answer @Kevin_Z , it would be awesome resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Hi, I've the same issue with the same model, TL-PA7010P.

The tpPLC application shows a link speed of about 300mbps, however I can only get 100mbps in local network. I can get up to 1gbit when doing the same tests using the same cables and the same computers (server and client) on my local network through the same router, but if I use one of the two computer connected to the poweline adapter I get only 100mbps.

This is of course a limitation of the powerline adapters, most likely the ethernet ports are not gigabit but only 'fast ethernet' (so 100mbps). It cannot be that, for some random reasons, we all just casually get 100mbps that is the 'fast ethernet' speed.

@ProcrastinatoR

Hi everyone. I could have asked on this thread instead of open a new one but while trying to flash a firmware (which I believed was the latest one without realising that was for the PA7010 instead for the PA7010P, although in the discription the chipset is the same, BCM960350), failled with an error message, and after poweroff and poweron again, the unit just didnt started and no leds whatsoever. Anyway, I did solve it with the PLC recovery tool.

The thing is, if you check the speed connection of your ethernet card(laptop), connected to the tp-pa7010p, it will say 1Gbit for sure. But in my case, checking the router web interface (Huawei HS8247W), the lan port displays 100Mbps, which is strange because all the 4 ethernet ports are Gbit. The IPTV box is Gbit and the ethernet port in the router confirms that. Connecting the laptop directly, same speed.

Can you all check if this happens with your routers also?

@PeterRoc

The switch I'm using at the moment reports a 1gbit connection from the TP-Link powerline adapter.

Hi. Does a internet speed test remains at 100Mbps? Thanks.

Yes, correct. I remember that I had a 1gbit speed reported also from my router attached directly to the powerline adapter, but the speed is always 100mbit in my case. Note that the TP-Link utility for windows reports over 200mbit/s, but this is not the case.

I only used the tool to connect the PLCs :). It's weird, the link always negotiate at 1000Mbps for you, but the PLCs have a limit of 100. I will not call it a limitation, but a bug within the firmware or the controller. Never heard about an ethernet controller advertising Gigabit speed and in reality only doing 100. But at the same time I never thought to see a manufacturer like Volkswagen cheating the emission tests...

Looks like the tech guys at my ISP are doing tests with the router (internet dropped suddenly), let's see what they will tell me.
