PS4 & Powerlines - Slow degradation
PS4 & Powerlines - Slow degradation

Model: TL-WPA7510 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Have a PS4 connected via a TP Link Powerline and have been seeing weird degradation of the connection through testing over a short period of around 30 minutes.

Basically was seeing some lag and tested the internet connection using the pretty crappy built in PS4 tool. I was getting around 3.2mbps DL and <1mbps up.

Swtiching the powerline off at the wall and back on again fixed it and it was back up >50mbps.

Running tests every couple of minutes and it got slower and slower every time until it 'peaked' at the numbers I was getting at first. Tried the same thing with the Ookla speedtest using the PS4 browser and got same results with a ping peaking at 199ms .....eek!

Via a laptop and pinging bbc.co.uk

Immediately after switch off/on:-

What could be causing this? I know Powerlines are not the best but it's always been pretty robust.

Admittedly we live in a busy family home with multiple things all leeching off the connection but this is at night with most devices switched off.

Worth mentioning that the wi-fi connection seems pretty stable but has shown to be unreliable when gaming.

Keep thinking I'd like to pick up a new router (on virgin superhub) to give me some better control of the network. I'm a bit of a Networking luddite so any advice is welcome - thanks

Hi,

When you do the ping test, how many devices connect to the powerline adapters? With few devices connected to the powerline adapters, please test the stability and the performance.

With the device connected to the main router, bypass the TL-WPA7510kit, do you have the same issue? Is network connection stable?

Meanwhile, what is the light status of the 7510kit when the connection lost?

How do you make it back to work after it lost connection? Have you tried to move them into the same room to do a comparison analysis.

Besides, here is an instruction you can refer to:

Only 1, the PS4 is the only thing connected, via Ethernet, to the powerline adaptor. Everything else in the house is connected either directly in to the Superhub via Ethernet or wirelessly to the Superhub. The powerline was bought solely for the PS4.

With the device connected to the main router, bypass the TL-WPA7510kit, do you have the same issue? Is network connection stable?

Yes, I have another PS4 in another room connected via ethernet directly in to the Superhub and that has a stable, much faster, connection. Ping tests using a laptop wired tot he Superhub shows around 15ms

Meanwhile, what is the light status of the 7510kit when the connection lost?

The connection isn't 'lost' unless I turn off the adapter. The connection is always up, just very slow.

How do you make it back to work after it lost connection? Have you tried to move them into the same room to do a comparison analysis.

As above, I'm not ever losing connection to the powerline, it is just very slow after a period of time. No, I have not tried moving the powerline adaptors.

Good day.

See responses above.

Thanks for your response.

Hi,

Thanks for your valued reply;

When the speed becomes slow, did you notice the light status of the powerline adapters? Especially the powerline light (looks like a house)

At that point, please check the powerline link rate between the 2 powerline adapters via the tpPLC utility.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/tl-wpa7510-kit/#Utility

Meanwhile, try to change another power socket to plug it or move it into the same room and take some time  to test the stability.

And you can try to disable power saving mode of the main adapter to give it a go.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2018/

Besides, below is an instruction you can refer to to locate the issue.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2231/

Any updates, please let us know.

Sorry I didn't reply to this to this post, got overloaded at work and haven't had a chance to look at it.

I am still experiencing issues with terrible degradation of connection through this Powerline. I am aware that the issue coudl well be to do with my internal wiring so will run some further tests for this over the next coupd of days and let you know
