TL-MR6400 disconnected many times per day
Hi everybody,
My Internet left many times per day on my TL-MR6400 v4, just bought....
When the problem happened, all lights of the modem are on.
I saw many users have same problem with different models of 4G modem. I saw answers given by tp-link staff.
So I create a manual apn profile, set manual dns servers on dhcp menu (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), check 4G connection with my phone but the problem is persistent.
Nothing appears in the system log, all steps indicate "pass" in diagnostic menu...
So I need to reboot the modem and it works again. So please help

Hi Kevin,
I have the same issue of regular disconnect from internet despite no change in front panel leds.
SIM performance is around 50%
The problem does not seem to manifest itself if there is regular traffic like a streaming video.
Model TL-MR6400 APAC
H/W V3
F/W 1.1.0.0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 181116 Rel.57786n (uptodate)
Could I have a fix please?
thanks

Hello Mike, please update the firmware to the latest one first. And then take some time to test its stability.

Any updates, be free to let us know.

Hi @Kevin_Z,
I already did that, shortly after I posted my previous message.
I updated the firmware to version 1.10.0.0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 190521 Rel.38696n
It looks like the disconnects are gone.
However instead of disconnecting, the speed completely drops to 500 kbps ~700 kbps
When I switch the router off and on again, the problem remains.
To fix the problem, I need to do the following:
- Turn the router off
- Replace the SIM with another SIM (both SIMs are Vodafone 4G Max Speed, Unlimited data)
- Turn the router back on
- See that speed restores to normal (25 Mbps to 40 Mbps)
- Switch the SIMs back
- Now the speed is also normal again (25 Mbps to 40 Mbps) for the SIM that had the problem initially.
Then it works a day or so before the speed collapses again and I have to follow the procedure of switching SIMs again.
Please note that simply turning off the router, or disconnecting the router from the power adapter, does NOT work.
I must switch the SIM and switch it back to restore the speed.
So technically the disconnects are gone.
I now have an even bigger problem, because now I must switch the SIM and then switch it back again.
Isn't there a logging function, so that we can actually SEE what's going on?
I have turned on debug logging. Let's see if there's something in it when it happens again.
Mike
Edit March 6, 2020:
Speed dropped down again. Nothing in the log that indicates an issue. To be honest, the things that are logged are way too simple and cannot be used for debugging purposes. So that's worthless. We need verbose debug logging, to understand what this router is doing and what happens with the connection.
After testing more I found another way to get the speed back to normal. When I go to 'Advanced' -> 'Network' -> 'Internet' and change the Profile to another one, save it, and then back and save again, the speed is restored too.
I also saw that the Network Mode was set to 4G Preferred. I changed it to 4G only. Perhaps this has something to do with it too. Maybe the connection flipped over to 3G or so and doesn't comeback to 4G. So It's now fixed at 4G.
Now that the speed is restored to normal, I will continue checking it. I'll report back later.
Is anyone else having this too?

Thanks for your reply. To help you to locate this issue and figure it out, our engineer will email you with the download link of the firmware and the information we need.
Then you can install it and take some time to test the performance.
Please check your email.
We released a new firmware which you can give it a go; besides, we need the whole system log so that we can do some analysis.
Our engineer will email you, please get in touch with them.
Good day.
