When I connect my Huawei F2000 modem over a cat5 cable, my TL-SG105E shows an orange light. Then when I comment it to a WiFi access point TL-WA901ND, that too shows a yellow light in the SG105E. There are no other devices connected to the SG105E.

 

When I run an internet speed test, I get the result: “very fast”.

 

What is the significance of the orange lights on the TL-SG105E. Is there a problem somewhere? Should they not all be green?

 

I would appreciate any clarification that anyone can provide

What is the hardware version of the switch? Which you can find it on the back panel of the actual device. 

 

While the TL-WA901ND has the 100Mbps ports, so I guess the orange led indicates the negotiation speed between the switch and the device.

It is version 3.0

 

When it says "running at 10/100mbps", is it true that the data transfer rate in some LANs is limited by the type of CAT5 cable that has been installed?

 

So this does not mean there are any problems with my LAN - just that the data transfer rate is limited by the cable?

 

Does that sound right?

Correct, the cat5 cable can handle up to 100Mbps only, that is why the led is flashing orange.

 

It is suggested to use cat5e or above to get higher transferring data.
