Archer MR600 not compatible with VPNs - ExpressVPN or NordVPN
I subscribed to ExpressVPN and NordVPN only to find after talking to their technical support helpdesks that the MR600 does not support VPN providers.
Have to say TP-LINK this is very dissappointing and I feel like I have wasted a lot of money on buying this device.
Why do VPN support?

Hello, the Archer MR600 supports VPN function listed as below.
VPN | PPTP VPN, IPSec VPN , OpenVPN |
---|
Here are the instructions to setup these VPNs.
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1661/ IPsec VPN
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2481/ PPTP VPN
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2482/ OpenVPN
While for the third party VPN, like ExpressVPN/NordVPN, the MR600 does not support, there is no option to set them up. You can contact their tech support to install it behind the MR600 network.
Good day.

@Lee46 I would suggest use ExpressVPN. VPNs are used to protect private web traffic from snooping, interference, and censorship. I recommend you figure out this review about Cheap VPN – Top Rated Cheap VPNs Review | Webguidevpn

@marceltrido and @lee46 The point is here that this device does not work with ExpressVPN or NordVPN or any of the othe VPN providers in the market. Why? Because the MR600 requires an IP address which defies the whole point of a VPN. Id like TP-Link to develop the firmware so that it does. I can't watch BBC iPlayer when I'm on holiday in Portugal without a VPN. TP-LINK when are you going to develop the firmware to make this a market leading product?

ExpressVPN supports PPTP and L2TP?
I bit trickier to setup but I've setup PPTPs on Asus routers the 'hard' way.

@NooNoo I need to be able to set access directly to the VPN in the router so I can connect my TV and Roku.
The router settings require an IP address, whereby ExpressVPN, Nord etc only provide a URL.
Interestingly no one from TP-Link is posting here.....

@Lee46
Don't have much knowledge about Express or Nord regarding this. However, I am the user of fastestVPN for the reason that it was compatible with numerous types of devices like TP-link or asus so might be possible its compatible with MR600.
here is the complete blog about this https://www.topvpnservice.com/reviews/fastestvpn/

@matthew01 I assume your accessing this VPN using your PC / laptop.... I'm wanting to set up the VPN directly in the router config. He purpose so I can plug straight in to my TV / Roku.
The Firmware on the MR600 does not support this.

@remilucia what on earth has that got to do with the router firmware? Nothing. Waste of a post.

Good day, You are right.
ExpressVPN or NordVPN requested that the router itself could be configured as an OpenVPN client.
But for the Archer MR600, it could only work as the OpenVPN server.
So you could not set it up directly on the router, only on PC/laptop, or smartphone.
Thank you for your time and patience.
