Model: TL-WR1043N
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 3.13.15 Build 140319 Rel.41339n

I am using two cables, a 3m cat5 and a 2m cat5e, to connect between my computer, the router TL-WR1043ND and the modem.

If I connect my computer directly to the modem, I could reach ~800 Mbps for both download and upload speed for both cables. I suppose it means that my network adapter setting, mycables and the networking from the ISP are all fine for providing gigabyte speed.

When the router connected in between, although it is shown the speed will be 1.0 Gbps in the ethernet status, the internet speed drops to 130-140 Mbps for both downloading and uploading as I tested on speedtest.net.

The specification sheet:

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr1043nd/#specifications

What am I missing here?

Thank you.

@Raikao

Hello, the TL-WR1043ND is a gigabit router, which has gigabit ethernet port, and the wireless link rate is up to 300Mbps.

While limited to the NAT throughput between WAN and LAN port, the maximum speed you can get from the TL-WR1043ND V1 won't be as high as the bandwidth.

You can order an upgraded device which can handle 1000Mbps, like Archer C7 V5, Archer A7 V5 and Deco series product.

May it help.

Nothing I see. You can try connecting only the computer to one LAN port with the other LAN ports empty and re-test. Also be sure to power cycle the modem, router, and PC between tests.

@ArcherC8

Thanks for replying.

I have further searched online fter I submitted this post. I found the following comparison table:

https://www.tp-link.com/ro/support/faq/465/

It seems that the router WR1043ND with hardware version V1 is bounded to 130 Mbps, not actually supporting Gbps.

Do you think this is the reason?

Sorry, I am not sure. Maybe someone from TP Link can comment.
