Deco M5 Firmwsre Update v1.4 available 10 Jan 2020
In the changelog, it says that v1.4 will disable WAN ping requests. I wanted to confirm if this update will allow us to choose whether we want to disable it or if it will just disable it with no way to turn it on?

well i can't seem to ping from outside now, and I don't see any options in the app.
although saying that, the updated app has still yet to be released on the android app store, weirdly given that the firmware has been released. so as per the release notes, features won't be accessible until then. I hope that the icmp/ping is a on/off switch option and not just blindly turned off. that would be very backward thinking from TPLink.

I'm glad I've held off on the upgrade then. I use the reply on WAN ping feature to monitor my connection uptime. The monthly features of the app are very limited and they show almost nothing noteworthy so I have to use external 3rd party websites to track stuff.

@Xinseo , yeah. the features of these routers are very limited. :(
I use a fingbox to do the monitoring etc. works quite well

@Kevin_Z any idea if the "WAN Ping" option would be made as a toggle/ switch?

@mlow same issue. Emailed, called China (no one picks up) and useless Malysian hotline. They say they are aware the firmware they pushed out Saturday morning essentially bricks the Deco5 and they have emailed tech in China who have gone home for the weekend. When they return to the office next week, they will start looking at it. My Maxis 300 mbps now delivers between 0-1 mbps even though when I use the test built into the deco app, is says 300 mbps is available. Thankfully I had a backup router which works and delivers my 300 mbps but it's a disaster that tpLink push out a defective firmware on the weekend and then tura off the lights in tech support!

You guys might be able to downgrade to an older firmware as a stopgap arrangement but wait for a support member to chime in so that you don't end up completely bricking it.
