AX50 wifi channel keeps changing.

Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.06

Hi,

I have frustrating problem with new AX50 router. On wifi 5GHZ band, In advanced settings I have set mode to 802.11a/n/ac/ax mixed, channel width to 160mhz and chosen DFS channel (example 60) to get the fastest wifi link speed for my AC 9560 adapter in my laptop (~1.5 gbps). Saved the settings and rebooted router. All works ok for a few hours but then the router channel changes on it's own back to 36 even though advanced settings remain unchanged. So max link speed goes to 866Mhz. Only reboot of router temporarily solves issue. Updated to latest firmware 1.06 and tried all DFS channels but still problem exists.

OFDMA: ON

SMART CONNECT: OFF

Transmit Power: High

MIMO: ON

Any idea? Thanks.

So no one can help???!!

Why is router defaulting to channel 36 after a while when I have set 52(DFS) set in advanced settings. When I turn it off or save and reboot it will go to 52 as I need but then will go back to 36 on it's own???!!!.

Sorry I can't help you as I couldn't get it solved, but I have the exact same problem on my AX50 with the latest firmware. After a while the channel reverts back to 36 no matter what I have configured.

Hopefully someone else sees this.

I have the same problem with my AX50. Just yesterday I created a new subject about this, because I didn't notice your earlier posts. ( https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/209342 )

At least I've learned something from you. I wasn't even aware that you can actually see the currently used channel (albeit only the primary one) in the Web-GUI.

However, the "Channel Width" shown in the same part of the Web-GUI isn't the one currently in use. When I took below screenshot the actual channel width was 80 MHz spanning channel numbers 36 through 48 as per Acrylic Wi-Fi software.

Guys if you are still able to return this device... don't waste your time.

You can see many people complaining about this model regarding different issues and you'll find out tplink does not care.

I am really tired of this situation.

As you know, both band 2 (52-64) and band 3 (100-140) are DFS channels. With DFS channels selected on the router, it will need to do a scan with a local radar all the time. If the selected DFS channel is occupied it will renegotiate to an open and non-DFS channel automatically.

This is not a product issue as all the Wi-Fi devices should obey the local laws and regulations.

@Solla-topee

I only manually selected DFS channel in advanced settings because in "auto mode" it never selects one so speed is slow. To me that is a product fault/firmware issue.

So if what you are saying is true then why cannot it select an unoccupied DFS channel automatically?. Surely all cannot be in use.

Yes, when the router detects radar signals on a currently used 5 GHz DFS channel then it has to stop using that channel within 10 seconds and switch to another available channel.

Furthermore, after the router has detected radar on a DFS channel, it is not allowed to use that channel for at least 30 minutes (called "non-occupancy period").

However, at the end of that 30-minute period the router may check if that channel is now free from radar signals and thus available for use. If there is no radar detected for a specified period of time (apparently either 1 minute or 10 minutes, depending on the channel and/or region), then the router can switch its Wi-Fi transmission to the original channel again.

That last step appears not to be happening on the Archer AX50. After it switches to channel 36 (using channel width 80 MHz) it seems to just stay like that forever and TP-Link should investigate this issue.

Yes, you're a professional. But switch the channel back to the original channel is not necessary according to the DFS standard, it depends on the manufacturer. If the router has this mechanism and your region has a radar signal (For example, users near the airport), the wireless network may be very unstable because the wireless may switch between DFS and non-DFS channels repeatedly, It's just my opinion.

The most important thing is to improve the router's DFS detection sensitivity, for most of users, I don't believe there are frequent radar signals in their area.

Is anyone at tp-link looking into this or what??. Do they these routers even get tested?? The firmware is useless!!

@Solla-topee

We know Band 4 Channel 149/153/157/161 which is the general channel for open .

But we can't see any band 4 channel on the select configuration,

Just Band1 and Band2(DFS)/Band3(DFS).

when AX50 auto jump to channel 149, we use analyse to scan all channel, it's very busy on 149.

can we free to select the channel on the configuration for band4 ?

It's the point !

I can't free to set any band4 channel manually!
