@BobTrace  It's not clear to me what TP-Link means by 'This beta firmware has enhanced the performance and it's recommended to upgrade to this firmware for a better experience.' Clearly the experience has not been 'better' for some and surely if TP-Link can break something in the firmware between firmware releases then it should be easy to fix unless there has been a fundamental change to how this area of the firmware operates.

I must admit that I was surprised that TP-Link hadn't touched the VR2800 firmware from mid-2017 until earlier this year and had assumed that this particular router was no longer deemed to be 'current'. Addressing the CWMP vulnerability was undoubtedly a necessity but I didn't expect anything beyond this.

This latest firmware problem combined with the seemingly endless connectivity issues I'm having with TP-Link range extenders is pushing me away from TP-Link. This is a shame because in all other ways the Archer VR2800 offers me everything I need from a home router.

@BobTrace

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience,

Sorry for the delay.

We used to have several feedbacks about this issue and forward the case to our senior engineers and customers did not update the emails anymore, so we did not get so many details yet.

So if you are willing to help us run further tests, we would like to forward your case to the senior engineers already for further assistance.

And if anyone who had the same issue, please feel free to send an email to support@tp-link.com with the subject Forum ID 222070failed to connect to the internet after firmware upgrade;

  1. What is the model number of your TP-Link device? How about the hardware and firmware version
  2. What is the original firmware version?
  3. Where are you located and who is your internet service provider?
  4. What kind of connection type did you use, such as PPPoE over the VDSL connection?

Thanks a lot for your understanding and support.

@Sunshine

As the OP of this thread, I think the response of TP-Link to this problem has been disappointing. Your 'accepted solution' is to start again by ignoring this forum and emailing instead. Is that really the best you can do in ten weeks?

@Libarch Agreed. I'm surprised that the TP-Link software engineers can't spot the problem and we're being sent back to square one again.

Looking back to 2016, I can see that TP-Link had to provide a fix to the VR900 (V1) firmware to resolve a compatibility issue with PlusNet (I also have a VR900 which I now keep as a back-up....just as well really). I would expect that there is significant sharing of firmware code between the VR900 and VR2800 as the routers appear to have much in common.

I wonder if this PlusNet fix has somehow been 'lost' with whatever rework TP-Link has made to the latest ( ArcherVR2800(EU)_V1_200710) version, particularly with this latest problem also affecting the VR900 (V3).

@Vardo The only firmware enhancement we really want for VR2800 is to add OneMesh support to this "premium" "top of the line" DSL modem

@Libarch

I've just done a quick search for PLUSNET in the forums and there are multiple posts, for VR400, VR900 and VR2800 for different providers in UAE and UK, did you get a response/fix apart from rolling back to the previous firmware?

Thanks,

Andrew

@VR400V2

Hello, thank you for helping summarize the issue. The current workaround is downgrade to the previous firmware and you will be able to set up the internet connection with Plusnet.

As for the new firmware, we cannot provide you an ETA, we hope you could understand and wait patiently.
