Lower speed on RE305
Classical problem of speed getting to half when using the extender. Could not find resolution through the forum. Screenshots attached as suggested in https://www.tp-link.com/in/support/faq/2232/
Image 1 (higher speed) is connecting my laptop Win 10 to main router through WiFi. The other 2 images are connecting to extender using same laptop thought wifi.
Please advice. Thanks

Good day.
Thank you very much for your time and patience.
After checking the detailed information, it seemed that the wireless link speed on 5ghz is quite slow.
For RE305, the wireless link speed is up to 867m/s, now on the computer, it is only 351m/s.
(Normally, the final internet download speed would be 50-70% of the link speed).
So, please help us check the following information:
- How far away from the range extender to the main router?
- Have you tested on a different device to see what the link speed and download speed are?
- Is the 2.4ghz working properly on the RE305?
- What is the link speed when the computer is connected to the router directly?
Thank you very much.

@Solla-topee thanks a lot for reponding. Please find answers below:
- How far away from the range extender to the main router? -- ~3 meters, direct range
- Have you tested on a different device to see what the link speed and download speed are? -- dont have any apart from a android mobile. not sure how to see there
- Is the 2.4ghz working properly on the RE305? -- thats too slow. Had switched it off. only have 5Ghz switched on
- What is the link speed when the computer is connected to the router directly? -- please find details below when the computer is connected to range extender directly (ethernet port):
Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 100/100 (Mbps)
Link-local IPv6 address: fe80::7930:ff48:fbe5:98dc%3
IPv4 address: 192.168.1.66
IPv4 DNS servers: 208.67.222.222
4.2.2.2
Manufacturer: Realtek
Description: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Driver version: 10.18.526.2017
Physical address (MAC): 8C-EC-4B-24-D7-A8

Good day.
Sorry for the delay.
On the mobile devices, you might need to download the Speedtest APP to run the speed check;
How to check the link speed on smartphones: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2265/
And have you tried to update the wireless driver for the Wi-Fi adapter to improve the wireless link speed first?
(As for the Ethernet connection, sine the Ethernet port on RE305, it is 1 x 10/100M Ethernet Port so that the final local area connection speed would be limited to 100m/s);
Thank you very much.

Hi @Solla-topee - thanks for replying. Link speed on my mobile is hovering between 175 to 235 mbps (checked multiple times). Speed through SpeedTest app is 25-30% of what I am getting when directly connected to main router. What I have noticed is when I switch off and on the extender then I get a better speed for a little while sometimes.
What do you mean when you say wifi adapter? I have updated to the latest fw version on re305. Are you talking about my laptop? Given my mobile is also showing half the speed we can rule out the problem with the adaptor version i think.
Please advise. If it is a product problem, can I exchange it? Or upgrade to a better option?
Thanks.

Hi, sorry for the delay.
May I know how long have you had the devices and when did the issue start?
Have you ever tried to check the wireless link speed when both the laptop and mobile phone connected to the router directly, still 351m/s on the laptop, 235m/s on the mobile phone?
And if possible, please try to change the wireless channel on the home router to be channel 40/48, or 165 for 5ghz;
Thank you very much.

I have the same problem with the speed only on the extender.
I recently bought an archer a6 router and a re305 extender, especially to benefit from the mesh function.
Unfortunately, there are big stability problems, especially for devices connected to the RE305 extender, which have slow internet connections, ping and lag are higher (and the internet works very slow therefore), compared to the situation when I no longer use the extender and connect exclusively to the host router. I mention that the extender is a short distance from the host router, and the signal light is always green, the signal is good between the router and the extender.

@Solla-topee I had already tried channels 36, 40 and 48. 165 isn't available in my router and as per the documentation it doesn't seem to support it.
Thanks for suggestion.
