Stability and UCI Schema Issues with Firmware 1.5.0 in Mixed-Node Environment
2026-07-02 12:25:57

  @Solla-topee

I am reporting critical stability issues encountered on firmware 1.5.0 using a mixed-node mesh setup (BE65 controller with XE75 satellites). After upgrading to 1.5.0, I experienced severe system instability that required a rollback to 1.4.5 to restore baseline functionality.

Our logs identified the following core issues:

UCI Schema Mismatch: The system logs reported daemon.err nrd[20044]: uci_get_value[line 59]: element type is not option. This indicates that the 1.5.0 beta introduced configuration structures incompatible with the underlying nrd daemon, causing an infinite crash-and-retry loop when initializing band steering on tri-band virtual interfaces.

Driver/IOCTL Failures: The network resource daemon was triggering repetitive send_mesh_band_steering_cfg80211: Send 8 request failed (errno=19) on ath19 errors, resulting in high CPU usage and significant network latency.

Logic Errors: Logs indicated steeralg_init: PHY based prioritization should be disabled for three radio platform, suggesting a failure in the beta firmware to correctly differentiate between dual-band and tri-band hardware capabilities in a mixed-node mesh.

DFS/Channel Behavior: Under 1.5.0, the system aggressively ignored manual channel selections, forcing hops into DFS channels (e.g., 104) despite specific manual assignments in the controller UI.

VLAN/Guest Network Behavior: While firmware 1.5.0 successfully grants WAN access to the Guest Network (VLAN 591), it fails to provide true isolation, as it does not hide or effectively segment the Main network from the guest traffic.

Rolling back to 1.4.5 immediately restored system stability, reduced CPU load to <5%, and resolved the erratic DFS channel hopping. I am providing this for your team's review to address these schema, steering, and VLAN segmentation conflicts in future releases.

Stability and UCI Schema Issues with Firmware 1.5.0 in Mixed-Node Environment

  @818

Hi,
Thank you for your attempt and feedback. Regarding the instability phenomenon you are experiencing after updating the Deco XE75's firmware, please provide the following information for further analysis if it is convenient.

  1. What are the hardware and firmware versions of your main Deco BE65?
  2. On the Deco app > Network tab, please tap a Deco and send us the screenshots of the Show Map and Show List pages.
  3. Would you please describe the instability phenomenon you are experiencing? For example, is the main Deco or the satellite Deco unstable? Do they have a solid or flashing red light? Or do the Deco nodes have a solid green light, but the connected client devices keep losing connection?
  4. Where did you see the CPU load? What's the CPU load when the Deco XE75 is updating to the new firmware?
  5. Can client devices connected to the guest network communicate with (or ping) the devices connected to the main network? Does Deco work in Router mode?

Best Regards

Stability and UCI Schema Issues with Firmware 1.5.0 in Mixed-Node Environment
2026-07-04 21:50:52

@Solla-topee,

Thank you for the follow-up. I have been monitoring the performance of the latest firmware versions in my mixed-node mesh environment (BE65 controller with XE75 and W6000 satellites). Here is the updated diagnostic information:

  1. Network Topology: My mesh network utilizes a star topology with Ethernet backhaul. My main node (BE65) and all satellite nodes (XE75 and W6000) are connected through managed switches (TL-SG116E/TL-SG108E). I have configured these switches to support VLAN 591, and I can confirm that Guest Network isolation functions correctly on the BE65 and W6000 nodes.

  2. Current Status & Stability: I have reverted all nodes back to firmware 1.4.5 to maintain baseline network stability. While testing the 1.5.0 beta (specifically build Rel. 65679), I observed the following:

    • WAN Access: Build Rel. 65679 successfully restored WAN access for the XE75 v1 nodes.

    • Isolation Issues: Even with WAN access working on that build, the Guest Network (VLAN 591) failed to provide true isolation, allowing Guest devices to communicate with the Main network.

    • Regression on 1.4.5: I should note that while 1.4.5 is significantly more stable for my overall mesh, it does have a known limitation in my current setup where VLAN 591 Guest traffic cannot access the WAN on the XE75 v1 nodes.

  3. Connectivity Stability: Additionally, I am noticing that some 5GHz devices (e.g., Apple TV HD, AirPort Express 2nd Gen) struggle to maintain a stable connection to the XE75 nodes, frequently showing "Medium" signal strength despite proximity.

Please let me know if you need specific logs from the XE75 nodes or if there is any further diagnostic data I can provide. I hope these findings help your engineering team address these isolation, steering, and VLAN segmentation conflicts in future official releases.

  @Solla-topee Glad to see some love for the original XE75 V1 I was just about to return the mesh system but will give it another attempt to see if the backhaul wired works now.

Feel free to reach out if you have some good stable FW to keep me happy with the investment.

  @Countryman

Hi,
Thank you for your attempt.
If you encounter any issues after using this pre-release firmware, please describe the phenomenon you encounter, your network topology, and the switch's model number, if you have one, in the Deco network for further troubleshooting.
Best Regards
