new (beta) firmware version for Deco M5 (v1) - 1.5.0 - new features testing
Hi @TP-Link and all,
I have done a quick round of testing on the new beta firmware released a couple of hours ago -
https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202009/20200915/M5_1.5.0_fixed_wifi_security_as_WPA2-AES.zip
my initial findings (important - I am using all my 8 units, in 3 different networks, as APs) :
1. the upgrade process simply fails when using Edge Chromium but runs smoothly on IE 11
2. this version seems to completely eliminate WPA - I could not find anywhere on the app/webui the ability to enable/disable WPA but the good news : no more security warnings from iOS / Win10 devices! :-) able to select WPA2+WPA / WPA2 / None as security methods : included inside the wifi network name dialogue (thanks @Kingdaveontour1 )
3. a nice new feature shows in the app : "Network Optimization". and while it doesn't let you pick a specific channel it does scan the area and changes its' channel picks based on the findings. after several hours of use it seems that the app wants to optimize the network channels every time you enter that dialogue window
4. no major performance changes were observed (other than +4ms latency bump which might be related to my ISP rather than the device)
@TP-Link - i'd appreciate the full change log so we can aid in testing and have this version out as soon as possible. iOS 14 will be released today which would create a wave of security warnings for the Decos.
Thanks,
M.

Hi, does this new beta fimware finally allow ping to WAN interface? It would be useful to track home connection's availability.

Any way to downgrade from 1.5.0 to 1.4.7 or 1.4.2?
The web portal doesn't accept the downgrade for M5 HW V2.

I also need to downgrade from 1.5. I think this version is unstable.

@dafon5 hi. I have downloaded and used the beta from the day it was released here and have not experienced any issues whatsoever (performance and stability are identical to 1.4.7 plus the new features).
so I am curious - what are your symptoms? are you using it in AP or Router mode?
I have been using the beta on 2 different (separate) networks with 3 x Deco M5 each, and in both cases they are in AP mode.

Ever since upgrading to this version ( that shouldnt exist since 1.4.9 is the oficial beta apparently), the cloud service keeps on failing, the decos go offline frequently and the speeds dont go over 150Mbps on a 500Mbps connection. I had to go back using my deco M4R pair since, on the SAME setup and positions, the second node reached 300Mbps easily (throught two walls at 10m distance)!
M5 Deco is an expensive mistake to buy..

@dafon5 it would really help if you share your setup/config :
1. are you using AP or Router mode?
2. are you using wireless or ethernet backhaul?
this way folks on this forum can confirm having similar issues with a similar setup or the contrary.
as I mentioned in my previous message - my very stable setup is based on 2 separate networks (2 different locations) with 3 x Deco M5 each, in AP mode using ethernet backhaul
