The issue is the TPlink extender is transmitting TKIP instead of AES even though the router is sending an AES encrypted signal. It should automatically use the same encryption as the router but it isn't.
We only know about it know because iOS 14 is reporting the use of TKIP as it no longer considered secure.
This is a serious flaw with repeater.

Hi,
We are still waiting for the new firmware (RE450 V3).
This security breach is not acceptable and is taking too long to be fixed.
When will the new firmware be released ??
Thank you

@DaveFromBoca PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! It's not a firmware issue! It's the mobile app that is unable to set AES!
If you connect directly to the IP of Access Point - Wireless - Wireless Settings - In Encryption you can force AES and it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tested with RE650 and RE450!

Hi IvanF,
I just tried it (it's also the only way to disable WPS).
I forced "AES" instead of "Auto" in Access Point.
It disables TKIP in Access Point but the moment I switch back to Range Extender, TKIP is enabled again.
Somehow when the RE450 reboots in order to switch from Access Point to Range Extender, "AES" is automatically disabled and "Auto" is enabled.
What a mess...
In conclusion my RE450 v3 is still transmitting TKIP ("Weak security")...
