Model: TL-WPA4220 KIT
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

At some point over the last couple of days the TP-Link Utility on Windows 10 has stopped working. Instead of a 'map' of the Powerline and Extenders, I simply get the following:

When I hover over the image in the middle it appear clickable, but when I click nothing happens.

I have uninstalled and re-installed (with reboots in between) but to no avail. I have not done any Windows updates since it last worked.

Any ideas what's gone wrong?

Jonathan

@JabeSmith Exactly the same here, I re-installed the utility and it appears to be working again, have to say the whole app is always a bit flaky though, always crashing or not showing my adapters correctly, very poor

Hi,  All,

Thank very much for your feedback.

For the PLC utility issue with the windows flash, please try to update the powerline utility to the latest version:

https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202011/20201127/tpPLC%20Utility.zip

after that, if there is any further issue, please feel free to update it here.

Thank you very much.

@RichardJ5 Slightly different for me - reinstalling the app didn't do anything.

@JabeSmith I have the same issue, seems to be related to the end of life of the flash product the app is based upon (Jan 12th).... I hope TP-Link will provide an alternative

For now you can set the date back before Jan 12th and the app will start working, lousy workaround but that's all i got

@Roysh Oh my goodness - you're right. I just manually set the date to 11 January and heh presto the utility works again.

But given I need the date to be correct on my device, not even a workaround.

What's annoying is that this end-of-life for flash has been known for ages, so ample time for TP-Link to get an alternative solution ready.

Crazy.

@JabeSmith it's because Microsoft stopped supporting Flash on 12 January. A TP-Link support agent told me to go here to get the 2020 version of the utility. Just be sure to select No to the country redirection. Don't worry that the page isn't for your model – the utility is the same.

@kranix Thanks, but that version does exactly the same. So I guess I'll have to wait for TP-Link to provide a post-Flash working version.

I downloaded the version from 2020 but lists the wrong device in the console should be a TL-PA8030P & TL-PA8010P but is listed as 7541 and 7741.

TP-Link need to update, and the android app also doesn't support the 8033P or 8010P.

@kranix

This worked for me. Yes the labels aren't valid, but it works enough.

Interesting that the description for the utility says "Operating System: Win2000/XP/2003/Vista/7/8/8.1/10/Mac/Linux". I assume this is wrong as it appears to be a Windows exe file only.

I downloaded the 2020 version and set my PC clock back to the 11th of January and the app opens fine, but doesn't find any of my devices (and I am connected to the wifi of one of them with internet access) or allow me to add them manually.

This is a really poor show from TP Link as I heavily rely on the utility to manage the performance of the network, without it they are really flaky and am back to just randomly restarting them whenever the connection drops.

Has anyone actually found a working solution to this issue?

@sfarkas I echo your thoughts - TP-Link need to provide a working fix.

As for instabilities, take a look at this post and series of replies: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/216430?replyId=465484

I had lots of issues with the WPA4220 powerline adaptor and extenders where they would just randomly drop but all the lights on the extenders still showing as all ok. I'd have to manually restart them randomly through the day.

The fix (after TP-Link admitted the latest firmware was unreliable) was to install the previous firmware version which has largely resolved all my stability issues.
