Model: Archer AX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.9 Build 20200708 rel. 55037(4555)

Hi all,

Installed a new AX50 today so I may have missed a simple trick to get the LAN ports running at gig speeds so excuse me if I have.

Before installing the AX50 and going directly in to the internet service providers router my PC would show the LAN being 1000Mbps and would a 500+ Mbps internet speed when a test was done, now the routers settings are showing 100Mbps full duplex, along with the PC showing that. I have tried different cables (some CAT5e, 4 others CAT6) but nothing seems to work.

When I switch the PC over to wifi and do a speed test it shows 500+ Mbps.

I have tried changing the settings on the PC from Auto detection to 1000Mbps full duplex but this changes nothing.

Are there any other settings I need to adjust to get it to work? The second device is a TV, so that may not be capable of achieving the 1000Mbps.

Thanks in advance.

@BertEddie

Hi,

There is no setting for the LAN port's speed on the AX50.

So you can plug the Ethernet cable coming from your PC in any of the four LAN ports of the AX50 and it always connects at 100 Mbps, right? If the LAN port of your PC has diagnostic LEDs, do they come on very shortly after you plug the cable in (like within a second) or does it take some time?

@woozle thanks for the response.

Yes it doesn't matter which of the ports I connect the pc to, they all show as 100mbps.

The port on the pc doesn't show any lights for about 5 seconds. Then a flashing orange light appears. The orange light continues to flash randomly, sometimes one flash, sometimes a few and sometimes 5 flashes or more. The pc ethernet status will recognise it's been connected after a second or so.

It flashes like this when I'm connected to the router via WiFi (but with the cable is still connected obviously) or ethernet cable with WiFi turned off.

@BertEddie

Maybe this is some compatibility issue. Although I myself have computers with chips from Atheros, Realtek and Asix here and none of them has problems connecting to the AX50 at 1000 Mbps.

Since the AX50 doesn't provide an option to turn auto-negotiation for the LAN ports off, there is nothing you can do.

If it is important to you to get 1000 Mbps and this is a desktop PC, then you could contemplate adding a separate PCI-E 10/100/1000 Mbps network card, provided you have a free PCI-E slot.

In any case can we have the model and brand of the Ethernet adapter?

How long is the cable between the AX50 and the PC?

@Kevin_Z It's going from the AX50 directly in to the ethernet port on the motherboard of my pc (B450 Tomahawk Max).

The 4 cat 6 cables I bought are all 1.5m long. I've also tried the cat 5e cable included in the box.

All the cables will give 1000mbps from the virgin media router (in modem mode) to the AX50.
