Hello,

I recently bought a switch because I didn't have a slot left for my PS4. I had some old network cables and I set everything up and the switch didn't pick up a signal.
Except for one cable. But after a while, it randomly breaks the signal for a minute or so. So I bought 2 new cables, two different cables cat5e patch cables, and again it didn't pick up a signal.
Is there anything I can do about this? Is it a specific cable I need, or do I need to get another switch, and if so, what kind?

May I have the network topology, how is the switch and the modem/router connected? Ensure you have internet access bypassing the SG1005D, as this is an unmanaged switch, in another word, it is plug and play.

 

Generally, both the cat5e and cat6 are fine when working with the switch. If you still cannot make it work by exchanging with different cables, please contact the seller to replace it, that might be faulty.

@Kevin_Z Hey so I discovered something; when I took the original cable from the modem, it showed the same ''connect the cable'' message as most of the other cables do. So I found the problem, but I still don't know how to fix it.. A few months back it worked fine, and we didnt change anything. Not the cable or modem or anything.

To answer your questions. The switch was connected witch the network cable coming from my modem, going alle the way upstairs. I don't have any specifics on this cable, because it's an old one, but like I said it worked without error on the ps4 before a few months back. It's just an ethernet cable.

Since I dont use the switch now (I only bought it so i could play on cable instead of wifi on ps4; the modem is downstairs and my pc and ps4 are upstairs), everything is connect to the modem, 2 tvs and 1 pc downstairs, we also have a landline still, and one pc upstairs.
