Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.4.1 Build 20200714 Rel. 47859

I from Bangladesh, got my new Deco M4, V2 (Firmware: 1.4.1 Build 20200714 Rel. 47859), no issues with 5ghz connectivity.

I received message to upgrade firmware to 1.5.0 Build 20210511 Rel. 34580.

Should I upgrade to new firmware or stick to 1.4.1 Build 20200714 Rel. 47859 ???

I had the same issues as mentioned in this thread, and I think I found a workaround.

My Deco setup is:

- 1x M4R, firmware 1.5.0 Build 20210511 Rel. 34580, connected to ONT from my network provider, using PPPoE, with internet VLAN enabled

- 2x M3W, firmware 1.0.6 Build 20201013 Rel. 22614

It used to work just fine before the firmware upgrade, and I was able to reach ~220Mbps DL / 50Mbps UL when running speedtest on my mobile phone in the same room where M4R is located, so that's pretty close to what my provider claims to deliver (300/50). After the update speedtests starts download at around 200Mbps, but then within a second or two it drops down to 1-10 Mbps, or disconnects. Or download reaches speeds close to max, but upload is throttled almost to 0. When I connect to the internet using router my provider gives, it works just fine, so that's for sure problem with Deco - and M4R in particular, because when I power off all M3W devices, the problem still exists. And obviusly I can't switch to a different main deco unit, as suggested in this thread, since I have only one M4R :)

What works for me is to enable QoS, set the limits to 300/50, and give high priority to the mobile phone - now speedtest works fine again and websites load properly. As soon as I disable QoS (which I never used before the update anyway), the problem is back again.

I hope that helps someone. I'd be happy to provide any logs that can help resolve this, I just need some tips how to do that :)

Best regards,

Kamil

@ArekW

Hi, it is suggested that you could try to update the following beta firmware:

[Solution] Wi-Fi speed drops down after updating Deco M4 to the latest 1.5.0 firmware

@Rakib144 Hi, yes. It is ok to update the firmware 1.5.0 and it would still support band 4;

@Rakib144 No, no and a hundred times NO!

This update broke my deco network. My network was working flawlessly amazingly.

I updated and... it's awfull, like it was 1980s. Writing this very post took me 5 minutes!!.

Constant dropouts, super high ping ... awfull!

Wired connection it's still ok by the way! hehe

Stay away from this firmware!

The same thing is happening to me, yesterday I upgraded to the m4r model to 1.5.0 Build 20210511 Rel. 34580 and I'm having lots and lots of problems with wifi, constant cuts, slowness and so on. It's blocking me from working! Any solution?

@valinha

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

Did you have any IPTV/VLAN configuration for the internet setup?

Please also try to switch a different Deco as the main Deco to have a look:https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2400/

At the same time, we would like to follow up on your case by email, and please have a check of your email box.

Update: if anyone had the unstable issue or slow speed issue after the firmware 1.5.0 upgrade, please try the suggestion above and leave me a private message for notice whether the suggestions work or not;

Thank you very much.

Hi, after I updated my firmware to 1.5.0 build 20210511 rel. 34580 on my deco m4r. The result were all my devices that are using wifi slowed down significantly.
Only the desktop that connected to the LAN port not affected. The wifi speed dropped and it is not stable (between 10-20 mbps), while LAN connected device remained at top speed (I subscribe for 100mbps).

The things I've done to try and fix the issue are:
1. Restart the modem and 3 of the deco m4r - issue still persist
2. Changed the main deco - issue still persist

3. Call and checked with internet service provider if there's any interuptions or upgrading work - no issue from them

What more can I do to solve this?
Regretted updating the firmware as it affecting my daily routine during this lockdown period.

@alexyong

Hi, did you receive any message from TP-link?

Or were you still having the same issue?

Thank you very much.
