Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.5.3
Good evening dear:

Living_Room -> Main Deco
Master_Bedrom -> Second
Office -> Third

Please see the attach pic.

I have the following drawback. I have 3 Decos M5 connected to each other, the problem is that when I connect my laptop with wifi or wired to the second or third DECO (not the main one that is connected to the router) I have significant speed degradation, intermittence and packet loss.

The problem is more pronounced when I try to download information from the internet. I did the test of connecting by WIFI directly to the main DECO and the download rate was approximately 6MB / ps but when I try to download the same file connected to my second DECO or third DECO the speed drops to 100KB / s or 200KB / s, no longer I know that more changes to make, I have even tried with a network cable connecting my laptop directly to the secondary DECO and the problem persists.

Please your support.

Thank you.

Greetings,

Cesar Vegas.

@CesarVegas

Start with checking signal quality between Decos. You can find that in Deco app, under Signal Source. Touch Internet icon at the top of Deco app, then touch specific Deco and you'll see it there.

This is an example of good connection between my satellite Deco and Main Deco named Living Room.

Start with Master Bedroom Deco. If you see less bars, if they are Yellow and/or Red, if there is no 5GHz but only 2.4GHz - that means, you must move Master Bedroom Deco closer to Main Deco.

Once you have good signal quality for Master Bedroom Deco, at least two or three bars of blue color, check Signal Source for your Office Deco. If Signal Source shows not good signal quality as described above, you must move Office Deco closer to where now Master Bedroom Deco is.

Thanks Alexandre but my problem is the same of this "the singal source is not selectable right now, the Deco connects to the front-end device automatically based on the signal strength" Deco M5 source signal selectable? - Home Network Community (tp-link.com)

Apparently TPLINK does not know how to fix it yet and it is expected that it will be corrected very soon in firmware version 1.6.0.

Thanks.

It is still important to properly place satellite nodes. I do suggest you check "Signal Source" for both of them and see if they are optimally placed.

Even if you return Deco and try WiFi mesh from different brand, nodes placement is important. Make sure you check that other mesh documentation on how to figure if satellite nodes have good quality WiFi link to main node.

@Alexandre.

My problem is yesterday my network diagram seemed to be correct in a cascade connection, however I presented many problems of slowness in the satellite decos so the TPLINK support told me to delete the network and change it name and create another, I did that and the problem continues and today the network diagram without any explanation is different. I really don't know what else to do but my satellite decos are very slow.

Yesterday

Today

The DECOS are still in the same physical location as from when I bought and installed them.
The bandwidth of the satellite decos is not even a quarter of the main deco, it is intermittent and with a lot of interference.
So my need to change "Signal Source" because the third satellite deco is still connecting to the main deco when it should connect to the secondary satellite deco.

César Vegas.

It seems you have problems with Satellites regardless how they are connected. Turn off Office Deco. Connect device to Master Bedroom Deco - if it still experiences issues, "Select Signal Source" future feature will not help, because your Master Bedroom Deco is connected to Main Deco in both network diagrams.

You may need to figure if your Satellite Deco nodes are placed properly and move them to more optimal places if they are not. Either that, or return Deco mesh, get different mesh and see if it works better for you.

Hint: optimal Satellite Deco location is approximately in the middle between Main Deco it is connected to and mobile devices connected to Satellite Deco. For example, if you use mobile devices in Main Bedroom, do not place Satellite Deco there. Place it somewhere half way between Main Bedroom and Main Deco.

Same applies to any other WiFi mesh system.

The main internet connection is the living room, deco satellite office connects to the living room, I would like the deco master bedrom to connect to the office but it connects to the living room (main). You cannot change the source of the signal.

That is the problem I have, I thought that the mesh network was connected like the powerlines through the power outlet but now I see that it is not like that, it will be a little difficult for me to solve my problem without having to physically move the decos .

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for this floor plan. Now it is clear to me. I misunderstood you initially. Yes, you definitely want to force Master Bedroom Deco connect to Office Deco, and Office Deco to Main Deco in Living Room.

Consider beta firmware TP-Link offered here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/173748

Also, based on your floor plan, I would suggest to move Satellite Decos closer to Main Deco, like this:

There are two locations that seem to be OK for Deco Node 3, I show them both on floor plan. I am not sure which of two would be better, it will be for you to test if you want to try it.

@CesarVegas

Hi, we can fix the signal source issue first.

Now there is a beta firmware for Deco M5 which allows to manually select the signal source, not the same as previous beta firmware 1.5.0;

Once the signal source is not changing anymore, we could check the speed again;

Thank you very much.
