Accepted WAN/LAN auto-sensing

Background:
There is a typical network topology:

Some users might notice that, once the internet service fails, they are no longer able to access the NAS server from the local network.
The cause of this Phenomenon:
When internet service went down and the cable modem failed to provide an IP address for Main Deco, both Ethernet ports on the main Deco would work as WAN ports to detect internet connection. NAS would no longer obtain an IP address from Deco.
Why do we use WAN/LAN auto-sensing on Deco?
For the Deco Mesh system, normally, it would have more than 2 units, and each unit has at least 2 Ethernet ports; It would be time-consuming and confusing to find out which port should be connected to the ISP modem. And supposing that the WAN port is fixed, once this port is broken, the whole Mesh kit would be useless.
Recommended Solutions:
- Given that the issue arises only when the ISP modem fails to assign an IP address for the main Deco, once the cable modem recovers, the problem should be resolved. It is suggested to contact the ISP to restore the modem connection as a priority.
- The current workaround would be connecting the wired servers to the satellite Deco units instead of the main one.
- And we have also implemented enhancements on certain models, ensuring that the WAN port remains constant as long as the physical Ethernet connection between the modem and main Deco is unchanged, even when there is no internet service from the modem. Moreover, it is also planned to support manually fixing a specific Ethernet port as the WAN post on the Deco APP later.
The following models already support fixing the WAN port:

@TP-Link - since I invested into 5 P9 units, and missed the return window, I wouldn't mind doing some beta testing...
Is there a beta firmware release available for Deco P9?
- Ability to select signal source would be a good start.
- Network optimization in Advanced Settings (i.e. automatic shifting of 2.4/5G channels to a less congested one, like the E4R has) would be a close runner-up.
- Support for DFS channels would be great.
I'm currently running a six month old build (1.1.5 Build 20231229 Rel. 36756) - not impressed...

  @chaybee1 you are not alone.
they lost me - and I will not consider tplink network products
for any system because of the complete arrogance and stupidity shown by the company on this issue.

For any one with any home based services (home automation or local streaming or similar) this situation is completely unacceptable.

I have started replacing my system with open-wrt based routers and access points - leaving decos in places I can afford to loose service. They will also be binned over time - and tplink will NEVER be considered as a source for their replacement.

@TP-Link I see it's been years now and this problem hasn't been resolved nor even barely acknowledged. Any user feedback here has fallen on deaf ears with no response. I'm now looking for a new mesh router setup for my home and because of what I have witnessed here, TP-Link will never be in consideration. I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears as well, but you honestly have lost a customer because of this unresolved issue and lack of communication.

My BE85 is leaking mac address of all LAN devices to ISP - suspect this is the same issue with port auto-sensing. Basically looks like the deco just creates a single Ethernet network instead of having two independent LAN/WAN networks. It's a big fail. Latest firmware (1.0.18). My ISP (Community Fibre in the UK) shuts down my connection frequently as they do not support more than 5 MAC addresses on the interface. TP-Link Support has raised internal proritised ticket ID TKID240554553.

@TP-Link It has been a couple years waiting for this problem to be solved. Each time the ISP goes offline (let it be for internet outage or a power failure that sees the deco boot time faster than the isp router can connect to the internet) my decos become expensive paperweights. I have my main deco with a WAN cable and a LAN cable. The only way to restore internet conectivity after the ISP goes back on-line is someone going to the deco location, manually removing the LAN cable, wait for the deco understand that a port that was connected to it all along had internet and then reconnect the LAN cable.
This is unacceptable behavior that only exists because of this auto-sense "feature". All deco users should be able have this breaking bug fixed.
