TP Link USB Printer Controller not working under Windows 11
TP Link USB Printer Controller not working under Windows 11
Hello everyone
My computer recently updated and apparently USB Printer Controller Utility doesn't quite work with it. As soon as it starts, it tells me "Server does not exist", this is obviously because I had a printer on auto connect.
I uninstalled, cleaned the list of auto connect printers, reinstalled, and at start, it should scan and find the router but it doesn't find anything. I tried already executing as administrator, also checked Windows firewall and everything looks fine.
May I have some help with this? I specifically bought this router because it was able to share a printer via USB.
Thanks in advance!
Sebastian

Hello @SebastianJ and @Jeffer814,
I'm glad to inform you that we have updated the printer controller utility, which can be found and downloaded from the below link, it's compatible with Windows 11 now, please check and report back:

Before you upgrade your Windows system to Windows 11, does the Printer Controller work fine? If that's the case, I guess the controller may not be compatible with the latest Windows 11. Check this:

@Kevin_Z Yes, I noted that the list doesn't include Windows 11, it's just been released recently so it would be very naive to expect a compatibility check so early. My question wasn't related to what the compatibility list says, I can read that too.
I wanted to ask if someone had actually installed Windows 11 and tried to use this app (which, as some other users have noted, isn't exactly nicely coded, for example it has hardcoded the router at 192.168.1.1 so if you have it at a different IP you need to manually use a hex editor).
Nevertheleless, if it helps someone, apparently there are general issues with printing in Windows 11, and it seems to affect TP Link USB Printer Controller.
- Out of the box, a fresh install of Windows 11 renders TP Link USB Printer Controller useless, since it can't see the router by any means (in my case Archer C7 v5.0).
- Updating Windows 11 as of today fixes this issue and the router becomes visible, and the attached USB printer too. Issue is that you can't attach the detected printer to any existing device. Only default software printers are shown (as Microsoft Print to PDF).
I'm guessing MS will solve these printing issues in future updates, and I guess with some luck TP Link USB Printer Controller will work. I'll track this and try to keep this updated to help others. Of course if someone tests this too, I'd guess we could make a good tracking of this issues.
Best,
Sebastian

Out of curiosity, have you received any updates or notices for this problem? I have exactly the same issue with my Archer C2300

@Jeffer814 Sorry for the delay, didn't get the email notificating an update.
I updated again to Windows 11 and still the same issue. TP Link USB Printer Controller is unable to see any printer in my network under Windows 11
It would be nice if the TP Link support could take a look at this, since windows 11 is officially releasing and it would be very bad to not be able to update an entire OS because this app doesn't work and it's the only way to get the printer feature working with these TP Link routers.

@2022servant Yes, you can try the Printer Controller Utility provided for Archer C7 V5 also.

@dogufo The TPLink USB driver doesn't recognize by itself the printer, you need to have first the printer drivers installed in your system in order to let the TPLink USB app "pair" the device in the router with a system printer. Just install the printer driver and add the printer manually to your Windows system, and then it should be fine.
