Hello @Phijim
You could try to check local website and see if there is any firmware to downgrade for RE550
https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re550/#Firmware
Do you still remember the firmware version before upgrade, what is the current firmware version? What is the model of Wi-Fi router?

unsure I believe it would have been the firmware before the latest one but I didn't look, the device said update available so I went ahead and did so, kinda regret it now as it was fine before, is there a way to force a downgrade to a previous firmware ?

@Solla-topee currently the re550 says:
firmware version: 1.0.10 build 211110 rel.63782n (6985)
hardware version: RE550 1.0
dont know if that helps?

@Degsy support dried up like water in the desert!,
no answer no how to downgrade or fix it!
totally ridiculus that an upgrde cant be undone easily, even an iphone allows to downgrade, wont be buying tp link products again!, this has cost me several days of work from home where i needed it to work, not at all impressed with them tbh.

Hello @Phijim
Sorry for the late reply. Please check the sticker of your RE550 device, is it Hardware V1, (US) version?
If so, you could try to downgrade firmware to RE550(US)_V1_210531
https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/re550/v1/#Firmware
For RE550 unstable issue, can I know how about the Led status on RE at that time? What is the model of your Wi-Fi router?
You could try some suggestions here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/272398
When connection drops, please login RE's web page, take a photo of the Status page. How frequent the connection drops, it is happens on 2.4gh or 5Ghz band?
How does the connection recover after internet drops? Thank you.

Hello @Phijim
Sorry I overlooked your case. The RE550 V1.8 firmware seems to contain some major update on the UI and could not be downgraded.
From your description, it sounds like the issue if Router C2300 freezes, not the RE freezes, you could unplug RE and connect client devices to C2300 and see if router still behave the same. For router concern, you could also start a thread in router subo forum here
TP-Link does not have a tftp tool for RE, that is for brick issue and third party update may voice warranty so that is not recommended especially when devices still has warranty.
