I have an elderly Dell  Inspiron 15R 7520 laptop running Windows 10 which still performs well but the internal wifi card probably could be improved.

 

I get 26.32Mbps compared to my mobile phone 54.56Mbps both connected to the same Deco M5 Hub using Speedtest via an Opera browser.

 

You have a large range of Wifi dongles, I'd appreciate some advice as to which I should buy.

As Deco M5 system has 2.4G/5Ghz Wi-Fi bands, you could consider some dual-band USB adapters like Archer T2U/T3U/T4U within the budget, they all could work with Win10 computers:
