Model: RE305
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.1.5 Build 20210416 Re. 61543

My main network has 300 Mbps speed. The main router is AC1200 ARCHER C6.

With RE305 range extender, which I received today (through Flipkart), has been configured under OneMesh network.

I have used Tether app on my mobile to configure the OneMesh network. "Location Assistant" reports "Perfect signal - Your extender is in a great location".

Since it is OneMesh network, High Speed Mode is automatically enabled

Wi-Fi Coverage has been set to "Maximum Coverage".

However, I am getting very low speed on the extended network.

Here are the screenshots for your reference.

Main network (tested on laptop):

Extended network (tested on laptop):

Firmware has been updated on both the Archer C6 router and the RE305 extender.

Please help in getting good speed on the extended network.

With regards,
Madhu

@Madhukar Do you use Smart Connect technology? If yes, that could be it, the repeater tends to automatically throw you into the 2.4GHz network even if you are close to it, but let it be clear that this repeater does not passes more than 100Mbps due to the port LAN being 100Mbps, so don't expect speeds above 100Mbps, but if you turn off the Smart Connect function, you already go up from 60Mbps to 100Mbps, it helps a lot.

@Andrsouzaaa

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I haven't enabled Smart Connect.

Moreover, based on my understanding, on Wireless it should allow upto 300Mbps in 2.4 GHz band, and upto 867 Mbps under 5GHz band.

I am not using the LAN Port, due to its limitation.

Lastly, is there a way I can bind one of my laptops which is stationed equidistant from both the main router and the extender to the main router?

Thanks in advance!

@Madhukar well in the post you want more speed, try to find an outlet closer to the router and connect the RE there, and don't wait for it to exceed 100Mbps , I have it this RE305 , I have a RE200, I have a RE450 and a RE650 and I know when I say that the RE below the RE450 does not pass more than 100Mbps, it is like a router it can be an AC1200 but if the port is 10/100 it will only pass 100Mbps, now if the port is 10/100/1000 then yes it passes above 100Mbps. try to connect it closer, it will improve, but don't expect a miracle... these input repeaters are really weak.

Hello  @Madhukar

Range extender wirelessly connects to router and works in half duplex (will cut speed to half), and some wifi speed reduce in wireless transmission as well.

Can you check at RE's location, how much speed you could get from router's 5Ghz wifi network?

  • In high speed mode, can you wire a computer direct to RE through Ethernet cable and test how much speed wired device could get?
  • You could try to disable High speed mode  and connect the Wi-Fi devices to 5Ghz of range extender and see if the speed is better.
  • when wifi device connected to 5Ghz, check if the wifi link speed reaches 866Mbps:
  • How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

If you want a device connect to router only, not range extender Wi-Fi, you could turn off RE & router, and power on router first, then power on RE and see if client will stick with router Wifi (this may only work when wifi devices get strong wifi signal from router)
