Hi,

According to the online user manual for the TD-W8961N there is a WDS-related option in the Wireless configuration menu.

I am not sure if this will actually work, but if you don't mind a bit of experimenting and want to give it a try, then you could do the following:

in the admin webpage of the TD-W8961N under the menu item "Interface Setup" go to the submenu "Wireless"

set "WDS Mode" to On

set "WDS Encryption Type" to AES

enter the Wi-Fi password of the CH7465LG's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi into the field "WDS Key"

enter the MAC Address of the CH7465LG's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio in the field "MAC Address #1"

click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page

go to the "LAN" submenu

under "Router Local IP" set the IP Address to one that lies within the subnet of the CH7465LG
(for example, if the LAN IP address of the CH7465LG happens to be 192.168.0.1, then set the IP address of the TD-W8961N to 192.168.0.200 or if the LANIP address of the CH7465LG is 192.168.1.1, then set the IP address of the TD-W8961N to 192.168.1.200, in this pattern)

set "DHCP" to Disabled

click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page

and then see what happens. (may have to reboot the router)

In case it doesn't work and you are also not able to log into the TD-W8961N's admin webpage anymore you might have to recover the router by doing the following: (from the user manual)
"With the modem router powered on, press and hold down the WPS/RESET button
for about 8 seconds until all LEDs turn off momentarily, then release the button."

  @JamesReynolds

If you have a Windows PC with Wi-Fi support, then an easy way would be to download and run a small software tool called WifiInfoView, which doesn't even require installation.

Google for WifiInfoView+Nirsoft to find it. (unable to post external links here)

Look for the SSID of the CH7465LG's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Its associated MAC address should be displayed right next to it. One of the columns also shows the "Frequency", in case you use the same SSID for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

There are also apps or programs for this on other platforms. For example, on Android you may use "WiFi Analyzer" (VREM).

Edit: On a Windows PC with Wi-Fi capability you can also simply open a command prompt and execute the

command "netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid" to display information about all nearby Wi-Fi networks.

The MAC address is the one shown next to "BSSID x".

Hello,

Thanks again for your answer, yeah I've tried your instructions & procedure but still no success, Though I've got another TP link router W8970, there you can scan SSID's & insert auto by router & WDS working fine there.

Maybe someone from TP-Link Support can assist you further with this.

Yes, most of TP-Link's routers have that "Scan" feature, saving the user the extra effort to find and enter the correct MAC address manually.

Also, somehow the user interface of the TD-W8961N looks unlike that of any other of TP-Link's routers. Perhaps this particular router was originally designed by another party?

There should be no need to change these settings.

Channel Width "20/40 MHz" is the same as the setting Channel Width "Auto" on other router models. (basically the router decides on its own whether to use 20 MHz or 40 MHz bandwidth)

If you don't have many neighboring Wi-Fi networks occupying the 2.4 GHz band, then you may get better data throughput if it's set to "40 MHz".

Guard Interval and MCS should be left on "Auto". I don't know under which circumstances someone would set these manually.

WMM should normally be enabled. I think the option to disable it is only made available if someone has compatibility issues with some really old wireless devices.

Hello,

Thanks again for your answer, I've sent quite a few emails to TP link support but no real success , myself I've conducted countless experiments with different settings one by one and same no success, don't know whats the issue , as I told you earlier I've got another TP link router W8970 , its working fine as wireless repeater , yeah GUI on W8961ND reminds me of Linksys 54g router a bit , was my first WiFi router years ago.

Thanks again for your efforts.
