Hi there, recently moved to a rural area with no sufficient broadband speeds, so opted to buy a 4G router. After looking at reviews decided to buy TP-Link MR600 V2. However, when using my Vodafone sim we are getting below 2mbs download speed and below 1mbs upload speed. Not really sure if there is any way to boost this, I've recently read a similar thread where someone was able to increase download speed to from below 1mb to 20mb by seeking advice from this forum. If anyone can suggest changes to increase the speed of the internet advice welcome. Thank you in advance.

Hi, please check the network type, band and signal strength on Advanced->Status page, if it is working on WCDMA which is 3G, please go to Advanced->Network->Internet page, change Network Mode to 4G only to see if it will work on 4G.

 

In addition, you could also try to manually select other 4G band to see if the speed would be better:

If there is still the same issue, it is recommended to compare the speed with other 4G device by using the same SIM card at same location.

Hi, thank you for your response and suggestions. The network type was checked and 4G preferred was already selected. We selected bands manually the bands that were available to us were bands 3, 20 and 28. We tested each one individually and collectively, the results in speed were no faster than what we had already been experiencing. Band 20 was the fasted, which it was on originally so we have left it on that. I’m not sure whether you’re talking about using another router or trying to use a phone. But when using a phone without connection to the router the internet speed is much worse. We tested the 4G speed using a phone and we get 1.5mb/s download and upload was 0.16mb/s.

Hi, have you ever confirmed with Vodafone how much speed they provided?

If the smartphone with the same SIM card only reached 1.5mb/s download and upload was 0.16mb/s, the cell tower signal nearby might be not good. Using a 4G router will share your SIM service with more devices but it will not improve your current speed.
