Model: Archer C6U
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.4 Build 20201230 rel.53346(4555)

Hello,

I am from Israel and have TP-Link Archer C6U Router. In 5GHz frequency band it has only 4 channels available: 36, 40, 44, 48

My country permits the use of additional channels as of late 2018 and TP-Link Archer C6U has been on the market since 2021.

It also mentions that it complies with European Standards: EN 301893 and EN 300440, which like Israel allow the use of U-NII-1 (36-48), U-NII-2 (50-144, DFS) and U-NII-3 (149-165, low power) channels across entire 5150MHz - 5875MHz spectrum.

Why is my device locked only to 36, 40, 44 and 48 channels within 5150MHz - 5250MHz frequency spectrum?

Why to this day TP-Link did not issue updated firmware with unlocked channels until now? I can see the channels being available it emulator:

https://emulator.tp-link.com/webpages_c6u_eu_1.0_emulator/index.html

Thanks

  @TheOneGuy

I think the emulator for the C6U must be wrong. Beside the DFS cannels it also allows to select the "802.11ax" wireless mode, which the hardware of the C6U definitely does not support.

Anyway, none of TP-Link's entry-level Dual-Band routers support the use of the "DFS" channels.

Furthermore, the channels 149, 153, 157, 161, 165 are not supported on the routers for European markets ("EU" printed on the label under the router).

If I am not mistaken, the lowest-priced TP-Link router that supports the use of DFS channels is currently the Archer AX53, whose selling prices start around 80 € in Western Europe.

  @woozle I understand the entry level and mid-range and high-end restrict differences but why not just enable 149, 153, 157, 161, 165 on EU routers? They are not restricted by government so other than artificial lock I don't understand the reason.

  @Michaelllllllll Why can't they just be transparent and mention about availability of channels on different routers? If I live in a dense area with numerous neighbors broadcasting on same 5GHz wireless channels and I intend to purchase wireless router that has additional channels unlocked that I can use to avoid signal collisions then specify that on the package so I will know.
