I would like to connect my 4 Deco P9s additionally with a network cable from the router. Can I connect the other Deco P9s to the router in addition to the main Deco (option 1)? Or do I have to attach a network switch to the main Deco and then connect the other Deco P9s from there (option 2)?

Welcome to the community.

I believe you will also put Deco P9 into Access point mode?

When the P9 units are connected to each other via Ethernet cables, they will use Ethernet backhaul, instead of wireless/PLC backhaul to create Mesh connection between each other.

So both option 1 and option 2 will work.
