Archer C80 WAN Port Capped at 100Mbps
Archer C80 WAN Port Capped at 100Mbps
I’m having issues setting my routers' WAN port to 1000Mbps/Full Duplex.
My config is as follows:
- Raycore fibre CPE
- CAT 5E Ethernet cable
- TP-Link Archer C80 1.0
- Firmware 1.10.0
I recently go a speed upgrade to 200/200Mbps but haven’t been able to get the full speeds as my Archer C80 WAN port only runs at 100Mbps. It is running in Router Mode. If I connect a laptop directly to the CPE via the same Ethernet cable I can get the full 200/200Mbps.
When logging into tplinkwifi.net and navigating to Advanced > Network > Internet > Internet Port Negotiation Speed Setting, it is set at Auto Negotiation and the LAN light on the CPE is green. If I navigate to Network Map > Archer C80 > Ethernet Status, the Internet WAN port reads as 100Mbps/Full Duplex. If I change the Internet Port Negotiation Speed Setting to 1000Mbps/Full Duplex the internet drops and the CPE light turns orange. If I navigate back to Ethernet Status, the Internet WAN port is now greyed out.
For the life of me can’t figure out a way to get it working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try using another Raycore fibre CPE's LAN port to connect to C80.
If that doesn't help use another cable CAT 5E/6 (the one included in the C80 box is recommended).
These issues are usually caused by an RJ45 ports or improper crimping of the cable connectors (loose contacts).

@terziyski I've tried all 8 ports on the Raycore. They all work as expected at 1000Mbps when using the CAT 5E cable connected directly to a laptop. As soon as I try connecting to the WAN with the same CAT 5E cable on the C80 it caps at 100Mbps.

Hi,
For a test, plug one end of the Ethernet cable in the C80's WAN port and the other end in the laptop's Ethernet port.
Then check under Network Map > Archer C80 > Ethernet Status whether it shows 100Mbps Full Duplex or 1000Mbps Full Duplex.

@woozle thanks, it seems that the Ethernet status still reads at 100Mbps when connecting the routers' WAN port directly to the laptop.

I see.
Like terziyski said, you should try with another Ethernet cable. Can you maybe borrow one from someone you know?
The quality of you particular cable might be insufficient for the C80 to work at 1000Mbps, even though it's good enough for the modem and the laptop.

@woozle I've just found two more cat5e cables and both give the same result. I forgot to mention that if I use my old router it runs at 1000Mbps with the same cables. I can't use that router though as it's not compatible with my mesh extenders. I'm starting to think the WAN port on the C80 is faulty.

Thanks to @terziyski and @@woozle, very good and thorough suggestions for the negotiation speed issue.
@TheLiquidChef To assist and figure it out efficiently, I've forwarded your case to the TP-Link support engineers who will contact you with your registered email address later. Please pay attention to your email box for follow-up. BTW, when did you purchase the Archer C80?

@Kevin_Z I bought it in May of 2021 so it is no longer under warranty.

The same thing happened to me - the WAN port drops once I turn on the 1000mbps speed. On 100 everything works fine.
