Dear TP-Link Team,

we are the Community Kitchen & shaere in Munich Neuperlach. Two non-profit projects, one dealing with food rescue and the other with a cultural and educational institution. The project is an interim use project in a former Allianz building where we have internet from Colt (1GBit). We have several TP-Link Archer A8 in the building.

Unfortunately, the internet drops out regularly (several times a day) on all devices. The wifi signal remains. In the log of the routers/access points we find the following error message:
ERROR 0days, 01:50:56, [inetd]INETD: select error, abort.

Can you help us what could be the cause of this problem?

Thanks in advance for the support and best regards,
Jakob

Können ihr helfen, was die Ursache für diese Problem sein könnte?

  @Kevin_Z

Thank you very much for your fast reply.

Before explaining my experience today with your suggested solution i have to clarify the situation. The ISP goes directly in a Archer A8 setup as a router. From the archer it goes to a switch and from there via glas fibre to different access points (Archer A8 and e.g. TL-WA901N), setup as access points. At the access points we get the errors i mentioned. At the router it does not show such errors.

Regarding your solution:

1) ISP is stable and tested intensively.

2) We already changed the Car cable

3) Router Firmware and Access Points Firmware is up-to-date.

4) I changed the Secondary DNS to 1.1.1.1 (it was 9.9.9.9)

5) I didnt try the Mac Adress Clone - do you think this could help?

Cheers,
Jakob

@jburkhart87

Thank you very much for getting back with the detailed info.

Can I know how many devices are connected to the main Archer A8, including the switch and the other A8s and WA901Ns?

Is it possible to reduce the clients just to confirm if the issue is caused by the heavy network traffic? If possible, we would like to test the connectivity and stability by wiring a computer directly to the main Archer A8 for some time. Please pay attention to the internet LED status on the main A8 when the issue happens.

  @Kevin_Z

Thank you for responding again so fast - i really appreciate that!

There is 16 Access Points connected to the archer:

~8 Archer A8

-1 WA901N

~7 TL-WR841N

Lastly it where about 55 clients using the internet. Sometimes it could be more. I would say in general about 20-100 clients.

The LED status und the main archer always stays same: everything green. We can always ping the main archer from outside, but not from inside when the issues occur. We can't really decrease the clients. :(

Can you please explain this? How did you ping the main Archer A8 from outside?

When you are pinging from the inside, which network does the device connect to, the main Archer A8 or the APs? Does the device still receive a valid IP address from the network?

Be aware that the Archer A8 is designed for home usage, if most of the devices connected to the network are heavy traffic, there might be an issue. You can check this article to understand how many devices are suggested to connect to a home-level router.

  @Kevin_Z

Hey Kevin,

Thank you!

Question 1: I let my colleague ping the public IP of the Archer A8 from another location / outside.

Question 2: From inside i was connected to the main archer and did not get an IP anymore.

Right now we have e.g. a total of 61 clients connected to the device. That might be the problem. We now changed the setup:

- instead of the main archer we set up a Unify USG 4 Pro as Main Router & Firewall

- we only connected three areas and 6 archers as access points with the main router so far

- it's running ok for now, we gonna see how it will work

Can the archer handle more devices when setup as access point?

Thanks in advance!

Jakob
