Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi All,

So I might have it all wrong but I guess I will learn it here.

I have a Deco M4 network setup straight from my router.

Within the Deco app I configured some port forwarding for both my pc and ps3 meaning they get a static ip on the network (right?) and the specific ports are open since my NAT connection to an old game is moderate / type 2.

After a lot of tries, flipping switches of SIP ALG, UTNP and reboots this still didn't work and the NAT didn't change.

Some people told me I shouldn't do these settings on the Deco network / Deco's but on the router.

The problem with that is my router's LAN subnet is build up different then my Deco network.

Let’s say my PC has ip 192.168.1.102 on my Deco network but since my router has an subnet build up like 192.168.0.1 I can only forward ports to 192.168.0.102 on my router and not to 192.168.1.102

FYI the firmware is updated to the latest. Also important that before i installed the Deco's the NAT was open, That's the reason I was trying to see where to fix it in the Deco app.

Again probably my knowledge is not what it should be but I am eager to learn.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, it would help if you could change Deco into access point mode:

How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

Best regards.

Can you explain to me why I should do this?

Doing it won't be a problem but I like to know what will change and why it would be the best approach.

Thank you!

  @Ro84

Hi, when Deco is on AP mode, the main router would be the only DHCP server and there would be one IP range 192.168.0.x so there is no need for port forwarding.

As for the difference between AP and router mode, please refer to this link:

What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?

Best regards.

This worked. Thanks for the help David!

Note to other users: hard reset the main Deco (take power cable out and wait 10 seconds) if you have connection issues after switching to AP mode.

Port forwarding is still needed but ok the router + you might have to give your machine (PC, PS3 etc) a static ip address so you can forward the port to that.
