Model: RE200
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

When I get connected to the router on both 2.4 and 5Ghz and give different/separate names to the extended networks, the 5GHz sucks, my internet plan is 30Mbps and I get that speed on the 2.4 GHz, but only get 5 Mbps on the 5Ghz, what's the problem?

Changing Channel and Channel Width on a TP-Link Router (new logo)

Ok, I've tried the suggested channels, it works, thanks, but what the auto channel has to do with the slow internet speed, I scanned wifis around my house, and found no 5GHz frequency but my own, so there should be no congested channel

2. For test purpose,  put extender and router in the same room, clear line of sight

Adjust the antennas and location of RE as FAQ here

How to place your wireless Range Extender for optimal reception and performance

If this still does not work, may I know  did you purchase the range extender, if it's an old extender that has been worked for 1-2 years, I think you may need to get a replacement under the warranty. To better assist with your case, we created a support email TKID220924585 to follow up and escalate it  please check your email inbox.

  Hi @nyonyo

If possible, when test the speed,  it is recommended to locate router and Range extender are on the same floor.

5Ghz due to its higher frequency, the Wi-Fi range is shorter than 2.4Ghz, the 5Ghz signal can be weak if the extender is very far from the dual-band router.

You could also try a different 5Ghz channel like channels 36/40/44/48 or select a relatively clean channel and see if that makes any difference.

Test on different network client like a laptop/ computer.

  • Please confirm RE200 is on the latest firmware : select hardware version and download corresponding firmware

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re200/

If still the same, can you test how much 5Ghz speed from router at the location where the extender sits.

What is the 5Ghz speed of Extended network and 5Ghz link speed

Can I know the network topology as well, thank you.

The RE200 is only 15 ft away from the router

I have tested on 2 cellphones and a tablet, don't have laptop at this moment

Approximately full speed +/-30Mbps

What is the 5Ghz speed of Extended network and 5Ghz link speed

The extender 5GHz speed is 433Mbps and the link speed/network speed i got on my cellphones is full 433Mbps, it is the internet speed (download) that drops drastically, upload is still about the same +/-10Mbps

Can I know the network topology as well, thank you.

Router in the bedroom and extender in the living room, internet speed was measured next to the extender with the bedroom door wide open

 Hello  @nyonyo

Thank you very much for providing more case details.

  • You could also test a different 5Ghz channel on the Wi-Fi router and see if that makes any difference.
  • Please confirm RE200 is on the latest firmware : select hardware version and check if there is newer firmware

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/re200/

To look into this further, can you share a photo of the 5Ghz speed of router at the location of range extender as well

May I know the model of router & the network map : e.g. do you have ISP -- router model X <wireless> RE200 ?

Firmware & hardware version of the RE:

Btw,  when did you purchase the RE200, did the 5Ghz Wi-Fi speed work fine as before?

I already have the latest firmware, I did it via Tether, it is even newer than the latest on the web

Firmware version: 1.0.8 Build 20210916 Rel. 59255

Hardware version: RE200 v.4.0

Initially the default firmware didn't support onemesh, but after I upgraded it works just fine with Archer C80

Router ZTE 670L 5GHz exactly at where the RE200 sits

May I know the model of router & the network map : e.g. do you have ISP

Router/modem: ZTE 670L, ISP: indihome, I live in Indonesia

I used to give the same name for 2.4 & 5 GHz so I don't know whether I was connected to 2.4GHz or 5GHz

  @nyonyo

Glad to know that changing 5Ghz channel of router works, Congrats!

If the speed is not ideal, a common suggestion is to test a different Wifi channel to avoid the possible interference,  it's good to know changing 5Ghz channel does the trick!

Thank you for your time and patience with troubleshooting.

Re:RE200 5GHz one problem solved another arises
2022-09-22 12:01:50

@Solla-topee Sorry to say but this is the fact, after changing the channel to 36, the RE200 works just fine, but another problem arises, besides RE200 I also have Archer C54 set as a range extender, the Archer C54 worked very well when the router was on auto channel, I got full 30 Mbps 50 ft from it, after I changed the router's channel to 36 the RE200 works fine, but the Archer C54 drops speed, just like the RE200 did when the router was on auto channel, very confusing, why the two behave differently to different channels

I always get the full 30Mbps wirelessly connected to the router 5GHz, whether it is on auto or channel 36
