Firmware Version: 1.6.1

After updating the Deco M5 from v1.6.0 to v1.6.1, my internet speed dropped from 260Mbps tp 90Mbps. Restarted the unit several times and re-entered the ISP settings but no fix.

I have downgraded back to v1.6.0 and the internet speed went back to 260Mbps. Internet provider is TPG Australia.

 

TP-Link, have a look at this bug and fix.

Forgot to mention, the speed was tested using the ethernet/wired connection.

Can I have a picture of your network layout, such as:

And could you please help me check the link speed on the laptop to make sure it is on the 1G interface?

Please also make sure QOS has been disabled or set to 1000m/s download/upload.

Hi David, 

The connections of the desktop PC I used for testing the speed is as per picture bellow. I also have several other wired and wireless devices but for simplicity are not in the picture.

I have used exactly the same configuration when I tested the internet speed with both firmware versions. I have also tested the speed at the router using the DECO app.

Hi,

I have good news.

I have checked the DECO app again today and I saw a notification which said that the network cable from the HFC modem to the DECO M5 might not support speeds higher than 100Mbps. I replaced the cable and the message went away. I was still using v1.6.0 and the cable replacement did not make any difference. The internet speed was the same, 260Mbps with the old cable and with the new cable as well. Then I updated to v1.6.1 again and this time the speed was good. It was 260Mbps as expected.

 

I think the problem was the network cable between the HFC modem and the Deco M5. It is interesting though that with v1.6.0 I had 260Mbps but with v1.6.1 I had only 90Mbps with the same cable.

After the cable replacement, the speed was 260Mbps with both v1.6.0 and v1.6.1
