VR600 as a network client expander
Hello again ,
I recall your last support which was great , I now have another challenge, with your permission:
my ISP which is a Fiber-ISP has provided me with a new HALNY router which looks nice. its only downside is that it supports up to 32 devices of 2.4Ghz ,and I have a smart home with many more . For that purpose I would like to use my Old (Yet great !) VR600 router as an extender to add more 2.4GHz devices to the home network. the HALNY router provides a Dimiliterized zone (DMZ) Feature . All I have to tell it , is to what IP to forward the information , connect the correct LAN and it will deliver all information to the VR600
I would like to use the DHCP features of the VR600 because if I correctly understand DMZ , this does not pose any double-NAT issues .
For this reason I completely reset the VR600 router to factory defaults, and configured it as a "Wireless Network Router" . I have connected the HALNY to the WAN/LAN4 Ethernet connection and defined the following :
at the VR600 :
- DHCP range is the factory default ( 192.168.0.1-199 if I am not mistaking , netmask 255.255.255.0 )
- Added an Internet interface set to a static IP , attempted to define it with the same netmask - in vain , so I hope the VR will translate it internally , and thus defaulted to 192.168.2.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.2.100
At the HALNY : DMZ Enabled, transfer everything to 192.168.2.100
Things don't seem to work ,
I tried adding a second IP to the DHCP , doesn't work , went back to the WLAN , I tried telling the DMZ to forward everything to 192.168.1.1 ( Maybe I am missing something ? ) nothing works .
Right Now the HALNY reports seeing two WAN interfaces, one is for the internet and the other is
1_WAN | Connected | 192.168.100.122 | 255.255.254.0 |
Interface | Default Gateway | Primary DNS | Secondary DNS |
---|---|---|---|
1_WAN | 192.168.100.1 | 8.8.8.8 | 8.8.4.4 |
I have no clue as to where these addresses came from , I never set it at the VR600 nor did I get any closer to 192.168.100.x and I never define DNS as 8.8.8.8 , I only use 1.1.1.1
Any help will be greatly appreciated .
Thanks again .
can you please aid me in what I'm doing wrong?
