Model: Archer VR2800v

Firmware Version:

I'm using Archer VR2800V with FTTC at the moment. Can I use it on a 1Gb FTTH with an external ONT from the provider? May I suffer performance limitations?

Hey

Yes this should work OK with FTTP, you will just need to switch its operation mode to Wireless Router.   Then connect the port labelled LAN/WAN to your new ONT (fibre box provided by your ISP).

Go through setup of the VR2800 and select Wireless Router, connection PPPoE and enter the username, password and VLAN if required.. then that should work for you

In terms of performance, its gonna max the device out, but it should work OK for you.   WiFi wise however this is AC grade (WiFi5) so you will likely only see around 450/500mbps over the WiFi.  To get faster you would need to upgrade to a WiFi6 or 6E device.

@Philbert thank you for your help.

I contacted my provider and unfortunately they don't provide an external ONT. They are giving me a modem router with embedded ONT, so I won't be able ti reuse may VR2800V anyway.

Ah shame that!

However if its a new device that they are sending you, which given its FTTP connection it likely is.. then you may get a WiFi6 capable device.   May actually be a positive thing for you!

@Philbert yes, it's a WiFi6 and it received good reviews from the users. Also, I managed to obtain a 40% discount on the price so I think it's ok.
